And how often did you go to work on it?
I thought this could be an interesting thread and a good gauge for realistic time tables.

Three weeks to dried-in with windows and door in place, building felt applied to walls and roof. Full time work, mostly by myself but with help from our son one day a weekend. Add a year to finish the exterior and interior.

Six months/roughly 800 manhours from digging the holes for the piers to moving in. A buddy helped hang the sheetrock, and my ex-wife helped a lot. The interior isn't finished, but its very livable.

Took 15 days off of work as I could over the span of about 2 months or so from cleared to dried in for a 16x20 with loft over half. Shack is 2 hours away so I prefabbed what I could; constructed walls in 4x8 panels and that combined with all planning, material picking and buying, etc is on top of the 15 days. That was to get it dry. To get it finished? Let's face it, it will never be finished.

one weekend to clear the sight and set the piers. the following weekend we built the floor/frame. over the memorial weekend the building was built,roof put on and a coat of stain was applied...tada

One weekend to built the floating foundation.
Two weeks to build the cabin and make it weather tight.
Two years of consistent tinkering to get it right.
A lifetime to continue to play with it.
It is never done, a continuously evloving project.

well i started cutting trees for clearing a spot for the cabin in Jan 2011, dug footers in Feb 2011----got it dryed the last of April 2011---got hemlock siding on Feb 2012----and not in any hurry ---"it's weather tight" just doing a few odds and in on it now---retired people are so BUSY!!! ====BUT i do need to do some more inside like finish my elect outlets, install kitchen cabinets, plumb in tub and bathroom....i need to get BUSY for sure!!!!!!

Man, you guys are quick! We are on 5 years and still working! We are mostly done, just interior trim work and other minor things to do. We usually have one full week a year and misc. weekends to work on it.

Permits are good in my area for 18 months, and you can get one renewal. So basically, 3 yrs is what the county gave me. If I needed more, I'd just have to pay the fees for another permit, though, it would be approved, they wanted the $$$ I think. I got my permit in spring, build a dried in shell in 9 days (concrete foundation was sub'd out and already in place) then I just finished other items like porch, trim, paint. Final inspection that fall. I worked on it in 4 trips. I have since been working on it ever since. Its never done. You will see what I mean and I dont want to be finished, I'd be bored.

I started digging the holes July 23rd 2011 and I'm trimming and painting the exterior of the "Shed Mahal" now. Over a that period, I've made 47 day trips to get to where I am now. In a matter of a couple more trips, I will be finished with it and ready to actually enjoy trout camp for a change! Although, there is the matter of getting a 1965 22' camper re-roofed and towed up to camp by mid summer....(it never ends!)....

We started in 1995 and built the outhouse first.
Fall 1996 we built and insulated the foundation.
Summer of 1997 I saved my money to build the shell in the fall.
By Nov 1997 we were weather tight with a roof.
At this point we have been doing things slowly and now
we are wired, insulated and the exterior is finished.
We have wood heat and after the first 10 years we finally have
electric. So I will say 17 yrs and counting. We are now saving for a
well and septic!
