He is the start of my buddies new cabin we are building. It will be 16x16 with a 6' covered porch. Here are some pics.

Interesting; don't see steel too often.
Any concerns about water erosion around the piers?

Hi Don, no concern about erosion because it is solid ledge He has a scrap yard so the metal beams were dirt cheap. We have cut down most of the pine and hemlock and his dad is going to start milling the lumber for it soon. My buddy had 50 acres and this is down in the woods from his house. It will be a place to go with the kids to get away. It will be a fun project, the kids are excited for some sleepovers in there club house.

It appears that you're that your cabin is right in the "thick" of things! It will be a nice size (16X16) but not too expensive to build. I guess you won't have to worry about how strong it will be! Great idea. Enjoy the forum and welcome from Old Buddy and Old Old Buddy.

Got a little more done today, but not much. We got the pt bolted to the i-beams, and we figured out what we are doing for rodents. 2x6 pt on beams then wire mesh sandwiched between 1x6 pt. Hopefully it works.

Spent a couple of hours on the cabin tonight. Got the rodent proofing done and started on the floor joist. Brian

We havent got to much done on the cabin lately between rain (7+ inches the past few day) and memorial day weekend. But we are gaining, most of the trees are cut and skidded out. 75% of the lumber is milled. We did manage to get a wall up friday before the rain. Hopefully saturday will be nice so we can get a good jump on it.

Got some more work done this past weekend and tonight. The first pics is how we are getting the materials down to the cabin. This was by far the heaviest load yet. Second pics is where we ended saturday. And the last pic is of the boys standing on the porch we build tonight. Thanks for looking. Brian

Hey everyone had a pretty good weekend at porcupine ledge got the front wall built, cut and peeled the front posts, finished the floor joist and started laying down the floor boards for the second floor. You did a great job on peeling those posts. The branches you left will be great for hanging gear and climbing. What technique did you use for the peeling? it is real clean on the smaller branches, especially where they join trunk.

Hi Exsailor we used a bark spud. Very easy to do only took about 10 minutes to do all 3. The trees were cut down 5 min. before they were peeled so they were nice and wet (would be a lot harder if the trees had time to dry. Use the spud (or anything sharp) start at one end get under the bark and pull. Once its started it just about fell off. This is on hemlock so other species will be differant. Brian
