What does everyone use for a loft bed ? Standard mattress?

My loft is 3 & 1/2 feet wide and 8 feet long so a full size mattress is too wide! Last night was not a full night's sleep with camping pads and a carpet. Looking for bed ideas, maybe cut up some foam and make a hang out spot? This loft has to be comfy man!

That might be your best bet...a twin size mattress is 38-39 inches wide I think but I don't know if you've got shelves or anything up there, or where your ladder is.

Wondering if a "full size" futon mattress may be just enough narrower than a standard full size mattress-otherwise a twin should work but will only sleep one. Yeah...the older we get the camp pads and carpet just don't seem to cut it do they???

good luck!

You can also buy a nice single bed memory foam matress on Ebay. The thicker the better. They ship them all vaccuum packed in plastic all squished down to the size of a pillow.Dont open it up untill you get it up there though. It will expand out to full size.Very comfortable.

I have a couple of futon beds, they work good for my loft where I have limited headroom.

I think a QUALITY futon mattress is the way to go. They are flexible, versatile, and relatively easy to move. We sleep on a futon mattress at the cabin and it's incredibly comfortable. But you tend to get what you pay for, so shop carefully.

We have an 8x12' loft and the entire loft is covered with foam mattresses from Ikea (appx 3.5" thick) ......plus 2 layers of egg-crate foam pads from Target. We use cheap sleepingbags for bedding. To get around up there it's crawling on hands& knees. Very, very comfy - everyone sleeps well!

Egg crate foam is amazing. SOOOOO comfortable. It relieves pressure points. I think TomChum has a great solution!

You could try these folks.

Can't vouch for them personally, but they look like nice, durable camp mattresses.

Many mattress stores will make custom sized mattresses. These are often needed for non-standard antique beds.

twin size may work, there is a single size that is slightly narrower, they are not very common, i have seen them on an old bed before and they were in the tiny dorms at my college, they can be found but are not widly looked for

We put an air matress bed in our loft. Its one of the better quality one's that has a built in compressor and cloth top. It works fine but We may replace it with a hemp rope frame and futon mattress since we have a nice one not in use.

I second the air mattress The one in my Camping Cabin is 2 years old --I use a D Battery pump which lasts for at least 25 inflates -- tkesd 5 minutes to set up -- I've left in inflated for a month without it losing air --its a Coleman Queen Size --stores out of the waywhen not needed -- and don't have to worry about mice --

I used foam, futons and air and slept like cr... There's now a real mattress with real box springs under it. Best move yet.

Just got a coleman full size air mattress with built in air pump for $35 at Costco. I slept better on that than any mattress including foam. The pump also deflates, very handy!
