My cabin is already built (30 years old) so my projects and photos include upgrades and changes to the cabin:
It is only accessible by boat, snowmachine, or airplane. It is a trip to get to, which is half the adventure.
Future upgrades include new windows, new doors, pine flooring in the "master" bedroom and loft, a door for the master bedroom, a new metal roof, a new stove to replace the barrel stove, chink the logs, refinish the logs, and build cubbies for winter boot storage. The list goes on. A new sauna probably will be built in the next year or two.

The images as displayed are way too big and it's impossible to see them on the screen all at once. Have to scroll sideways and up and down  It's very hard to really see anything.

I broke down last summer and put in new cabinets. After almost a year, I still like the cabinets. Although the quality isn't high, they do a fine job for a part time cabin. Once I build my full time cabin, I will make my own cabinets. I was limited by time, so the Lowe's Hickory cabinets got the job done!
I am posting this because I really didn't find much on the Lowe's Hickory Cabinets before I bought them.
I few things I don't like:
- Obviously MDF is cheap, and I don't think these will last as long as I would like.
- The slides are rather flimsy, so the drawers aren't heavily loaded
- The shelf in the bottom cupboards only extend half the depth, really reducing storage capacity. I am going to put a full shelf in.
Other than those flaws, I like the cabinets. The hickory goes well in a cabin and they were easy to install.
I posted more pictures on my blog, but the installed cabinets are shown above, before the new countertop and sink were installed.
We don't have running water in the cabin, so there is a bucket under the sink. Next summer I will make a graywater system and bury a 55 gallon drum with holes in it. For water, in the winter we haul 5 gallon jugs. In the summer we have a 100 gallon tank we pump river water into. The tank gravity feeds a copper line with a simple valve to give water to the sink.

The floor and ceiling are insulated. There is insulation between the logs. The barrel stove does a good job of heating the cabin, but isn't very efficient. I will replace it with a blaze king princess in the next couple of years. The cabin will heat up from -40 to 80F above in about 4 hours. It really is fun watching the mercury move up and gradually take layers off as the cabin warms. The loft gets way too hot! I built a window to put in the loft. With the downstairs in the 70s the loft will be in the 90s + .

Thanks! It really isn't a perfect cabin, and would never appear in a magazine. We didn't build it but we love it even with its "character" flaws.
We love to go there and I would love to live there year round if life would allow it! Yes it is a 45-70. It stays at the cabin. We have alot of bears, mostly black bear but sometimes the occasional grizzly.

Just started sanding to re-stain the cabin. Hope to get it done before the snow flies, but it's already freezing up here. Nothing beats a little snow for motivation!
Also I had posted a month ago about off grid laundry solutions. Here's what I came up with. I'm using it in town right now and it works out pretty well.
I bought the Breathing Washer from Emergency Essentials (cheapest price $14.95 and cheap shipping) last month. It is very simple to use and essentially is a toilet plunger with aeration holes. I had read about buying a cheap toilet plunger or buying Breathing Mobile Washer. The reason I bought the mobile washer was reviews about toilet plungers rubber disintegrating over time. I bought a hand wringer from Kleen-Rite called the Lake City Handwringer. This hand wringer is the same wringer Lehman's sales as "Best Hand Wringer"and sell for $199. I paid $118 before shipping.

The plan for the sauna is another building.
I had my architect (sister) draw up some plans. This is rendering #4 (of 8) that won! It works for how we will use the space - as a quick shower in the summer or as a sauna in the winter.

I'm working lots lately, just not on the cabin!
I purchased a Norwood ML26 sawmill. I will be taking it to the cabin as soon as the river freezes. It will be nice to make lumber whenever. I bought it specifically building the sauna and all the other projects.
In the meantime, since I can't go to the cabin, I'm thinking about going to the cabin... that includes the colder winter rides. I have been busy sewing fur hats and mittens.
Some of my files are too big to post. I wrote up some instructions on sewing fur if anyone is interested.

Aktundra, where did you get your galvanized tubs. I can only find some at Lehman's for $45, which seems pricey when you consider shipping on top of that.

KSalzwedel - I got the tubs at Tractor Supply Company while visiting the lower 48  They are $15 each. If you search Behrens bushel tubs you will find them.
jrbarnard - it's 3 sided because it's milled on three sides of the log. It would make more sense to call it a one sided log.
