Im in a bind here.. I only have one more trip to the cabin before we move. and I want to finish the flooring.
Im very interested in the fast drying aspect of water based poly but the mixed reviews have me on the fence.
Does anyone here have any experience with the water based type, how the application differs from oil based and how well you liked the end result.
So it's either water based now and finish it, or put on a first coat of oil base and leave it , to finish after the move.

I've used and like Minwax® Water Based Polyurethane for Floors. Three coats.

We had water based put on our kitchen floors 7 yrs ago...3 big dogs and lots of cooking and the floors still look beautiful...from what I understant the water based is a much harder finish and you can walk on it in your socks in 24hrs and 48 hrs put in furniture! Oh...and it doesnt have that long lasting smell either....once it dried the smell was gone! Easier to clean up too!

I finally found a sherwin williams that has the MinWax Water poly for floors. I pass it on the way to the cabin so that worked out.
Whats the best spreading method for the water based poly ? Just a little sponge mop ? roller ?, perhaps a squeegee on a mop handle ?
I'll have four days to work this time so I think I can get the floors done too.

I use water base on everything at work and at home.You have to throw a fresh coat on once in a while to spruce it up.But I love the face it dries so quickly and doesnt smell for weeks.

I put minwax on my floor and it came up . I would use Fabulawn by flood best stuff in the world

moisture cured urethane is what the pros use and its the best hands down. BUT,,, lots of smell, a week to dry, bad stuff!!!!I have used it for table tops [will not leave a white ring from a wet glass]but for our floors we use ether water or oil urethane both work well. On old floors its best to stick with oil based ,but on new floors water based is the way to go..

I'm planning on using Vermont coatings PolyWhey for the floors in our cabin when the time comes. I've used it on furniture products. Nice stuff!

I used a poly spar varnish product I got from ACE hardware on my dry sink an it has held up under all kinds of use for a year and a half on my dry sink that takes lots of beatings.
Water based may have improved, but I hated the water based floor paint I used a few times. It had none of the wonderful shine and toughness of the oil floor paints I had used. It may have changed from what I am reading, but as long as I can get a real poly product I will stay away from water based.
