I have an extra cabin on my northern Wisconsin property that I don't really need or want anymore and was looking for some advice on what to do with it. I built the original 12'x12 cabin about 22 years ago when I was both young and poor, and added a 12'x12' addition about 9 years ago. I've recently built a much larger and nicer cabin that eliminates the need to have the old cabin around.
So, what are my options? I could just tear it down, but that seems like such a waste. Is this something that could be sold and moved to another location? If so, what would it be worth?
I've attached a picture from about 8 years ago. It's not in as good of shape as back then, but it should give a rough idea of its shape and size.

Well if you cant sell it...
garage, tool shed, work shop, boat house if near water, snowmobile storage...the possibilities are endless
I know someone who bought an adjoining camp to his and repurposed it into all of the above. Worked great and now there are fewer neighbors in the neighborhood.

Try googling recycled Building Material - there are many companies/groups that may take it away and repurpose it somewhere else

I doubt I could find anyone where I'm located to recycle the materials. Preferably I'd like to sell it, and only tear it down if I have no other options.
Let me rephrase my earlier questions.
1. Can a cabin this size be easily moved?
2. Is this something someone would pay for, and if so about how much?

I would think moving it would be very technically possible. Question is would the cost of moving it be more or less cost effective than building a new one. Answer might be yes depending on distance. The important question though is there anyone on this site that wants to buy it?

Where in northern Wi. is the cabin located? I would think it could easily be sold-it looks very solid. Since you had added on, if the two "pieces" came back apart again for transportation purposes it may make it easier. I would think many would be interested if the price is right. You never know till you try to sell-looks like something for Craigs List! Is 12' the max width for roads/highways?

The two pieces could come apart with a little work, and the original 12'x12' cabin could be used by itself without the addition. With a little extra work you could almost get two 12'x12' cabins out of it.
The max width allowed without a permit is 8'6", so someone would need to get a permit to move it any distance.
As for location I'm going to be purposefully vague for now in saying a bit north of Wausau.

A permit only costs $25 or so, but there are certain insurance requirements that need to be met.
Bodily Injury Liability - each person = $200,000
Bodily Injury Liability - each accident = $600,000
Property Damage Liability - each accident = $400,000

Not sure if it's important to you:
Why don't keep it and use it as a guest house, to have a place for visiting relatives or friends?
Once you get rid of that cabin, consider how much trouble with permits etc. you would have to go through again if you decide to build something like that down the road.
