Anyone install their own septic system? Did you just use section 40 or did you use the baffle systems? Any suggestions? Did you bring in stone or sand?

i did my own 3 weeks ago---got a friend with a compact track hoe, a i picked up my supplies, and "we got it done" in 4 hours.....
infiltrator is the way to go...no more stone etc....BUT use 4" PVC for your drainage pipe from your cabin....

I am interested in the infiltrator system myself. I am going to apply for my septic permit this week. I don't know anyone in the area who has used those, though. I will have to ask the health dept. guy if he has worked with them before. Although if the official perc test goes anything like my un-official test (done in the same area with a 3 pt. auger) I can probably get a 3 bedroom size conventional system installed for $2500.

3 bedroom, probably a 1200 gallon tank, you will be looking at about 160 feet of drain field. Drain field needs to drop 1/4" per foot. You dont want much more, never less.
Will you be required to use a "surge tank set up"? This is areas requiring it so the entire drain field gets used instead of just the first part of it. So you add a 250 gallon tank from the outlet of the septic, when it fills up, electric pump kicks o n and charges up the entire drain field.
Surge tank will be needed if the drain field is higher than the septic of course.
Local neighbor near my cabin said he will install a full system for me for $3500.

got mine done, with track hoe, labor, 4" PVC back to cabin and infiltrator / fitting primer/ glue etc ....less than 800 clams
also where the PVC from your tank--comes into the infiltrator, he told me to pick up a 12" x 12' conc stepping stone, to put under the inlet( bottom of infiltrator) , so we did. He said he has saw it undermine some with out ...who knows,,,, for .99 cents i put one in there.

depends what size tank but in NY the minimum state requirement is 1000 gallon with a 2 man hole cover which is running about $1200.

If you are required 100-150 ft of section 40 pipe what would be the equivalent number of chambers you would need? I was trying to find a comparison but couldn't find one

I just had the county health department out for approval. They want a 1000 gal. tank and 400 feet of leach line. We are on really bad clay soil here. I am going to try the pipe/packing peanut leach lines. Is that the infiltrator system you are speaking of?
Estimates for having it done are around $5000 so I know I will be doing it myself.

ads as well as some other companies have biochambers that are used instead of section 40 pipe
