Good Luck with the inspectors. I am sure from the pictures you have posted that you have your bases covered.

Thanks Steve. I don't know why I let these meetings get me worked up. Acid reflux and all. Really if we need to change something we just do it, right? I guess I don't like the critiques of an inspector after working so hard...I must take it personally.

Getting the wood top on the fireplace tonight and we should be square. I'll post pics when I finish.

Yeah, in my city house we had an inspector come after some work and yes its tough to hear someone critique your work. Also its tough when some of them seem to have.... not a grasp of what they talk about and then continually change each time they show and want more. Some times you just have to be a little mean... or forcefull with them. Nothing irks me more than have an inspector show up and and more stuff to the previous list... Thats just not right.
So my advice is not to sweat the little stuff... you are there. Your at the finish line..... or is it really just the starting line! Enjoy.

Inspection report came back. Only a few minor things. Most of which were just because the hot water tank was turned off and water to part of the house was shut off.

So we should be good with another hour of work...

- paint gas line
- add bird vent to exhaust pipe
- water to kitchen: turn on
- no hot water: turn on

They added to the list. Now they want arc fault breakers for bedroom lights and smoke detectors. Can't find this in the 2006 irc code book, but I guess I'll just get er done.

Should be able to finish this weekend. Might be the only time it is okay to be without power!!

You know with these 100 degree days and no air conditioning we have yet to break 80 degrees in our cabin. Will be even cooler once we put some blinds up to block the sun.

The other amazing thing is that the upstairs and ground floor are the same temp. Testimate to the icf walls and spray foam ceiling.

By comparison if I turn our house (built in 60s) from 75 to 80 degrees in the same heat it will reach 80 in about 2 hours. Mid day. The cabin will hold the same temp unless windows or doors are opened.

I especially hate it when the inspectors "add to the list". That should not be allowed. But at least its doable.

That is very awesome. Sounds like your cabin will be cozy for a long, long time.......

Congrats on a successful inspection...we had smoke detectors added too-even though we don't have electricity they had to be hard wired and also ground fault protectors were added too. Could be worse though!

Glad you are staying cool in the cabin!

So I hadn't heard anything after making the last few updates. I decided to call the inspector. He said oh yeah we signed off on everything and you are good to go.

So from anyone's experience with inspectors and permits. Does this mean we have occupancy or do we need an official occupancy permit or something?

We never got anything from our inspector either...guess we should follow up as well. I know stuff happens, but it just seems to happen more and more with businesses and the county too I guess. Maybe I am just grouchy and disgruntled, but I hate having to make follow up calls and playing phone tag

The certificate say we need to keep onsite and must pass to knew owners if we sell. So I guess it is a good thing we asked.

Here are some pics with the lights on!! Built a bunk bed for the kids bunk room. Put some furniture in.

The dining table I built out of slabs of black walnut that I found at a local sawmill. Take two to lift!! It may never lie perfectly flat, but it isn't noticeable when using.

Hung a few pictures, mirrors and towel holders.

Yeah! Congrats by the way. We have little ones, and I remember visiting the property for the first time after we plunked down the money at closing. I was a little nervous for spending our savings. We onlly had one child at the time. We pulled in the gravel driveway, opened the door and our son went running! It was like he had been there a million times before. We felt better about the purchase.

The kids will spend all day busy there. But in the city they seem restless. Build something if you can. IF it helps use friends. We let our friends be part of the build process so that when they come to use it they will have a sense of ownership and more responsibility to treat it with care.
