7 miles door to door, pavement to country rock road then mile long driveway to timber dirt road to cow path, cross the creek up hill to pasture. Not built yet but planned and spot is plotted. Start building May 2013 (fingers crossed.)

Takes about 50 minutes to drive to the cottage from home. We're really lucky to have found a place so close to home.

We're 210 km, or 130 miles, from our recently purchased Alberta prairie cabin. We're still experimenting with routes and such, but it's a little under a 2 1/2 hour drive under good conditions.

Mine is about 300 feet from my house!.... I own a separate small piece of land across the street and down the a hill from my house that is water front. Tricky to build on, but worth the effort.

The problem I found living in Calgary (oil-rich city of 1 million) was that it was difficult to find anything, land or land with cabin, that was reasonably priced under a 5 hour drive from home. Finding something 2 1/2 hours from home was a coup in my books. 300 feet is unbelievable.

Does it feel as though you're "getting away from things" being that close to home, though?

1.5 hour drive, short drive by most standards. Even if we can't get on the road on Thursday or Friday we can leave the house at 6:00 on Saturday, stop for breakfast and be at the cabin by 8:00.

The closer it is the more you will use it.

476 miles or about 8 hrs. 5 1/2 hrs of interstate,2 1/2 hrs of state rt before our little turn off. 8 to 10 miles of sand dunes and drive along the shores of 3 Great Lakes. Its an awesome drive.

Just signed up and posted some intro stuff on the members project section. We are 830 miles...about 14 hours...one way from our cabin in Northern MN. Too far to get there very often, at least until we retire, but we love it anyway.
