Many different cabins here, in many vastly different climates and landscapes.
My cabin is way off grid, deep into MN woods. Grouse and deer hunting in the fall, wildlife photography all year, snowmobiling in winter. The kids dirt bike and fourwheel in summer, and I mow grass.
We sit around a campfire every night we can and star watch and talk.
If not we might play board games inside.
Late summer I build better and better deer stands, It's kind' like tree forts. I never got over that.
Oh yeah, we target shoot rifles. I reload so it's cheap.

Well, its only five acres.... so we walk the property with our dogs...
We listen to our favorite music......... barbeque....... take pictures...... take a scenic drive and try to discover a new place or lake.
We look at the stars at night !!! Up there we can see the stars...... its so so beautiful.
There is always a project to complete or start......
and most of all........ be happy. Its my happy place.

Projects - Solar power, water, build stuff, move dirt, make trails
Make campsites, hike, look for wildflowers, explore, make food, campfire
Zipline for the kids, rope swing and 12 foot inflatable pool
Look for animal tracks (cougar, deer, bobcat, bear)
Ride dirtbikes, trials bikes, kid bikes, ATV
Clear brush, Clear around the creek, fire suppression, smooth the road, Dig with the tractor, push stuff around, drag logs, mow the field
Check email, txt messages, water the huckleberries
Take a nap, have a beer on the porch, design the next project

Sounds like mostly work? It's not!

I sit on my porch and take in the beauty while letting my mind wonder. Something has to be really important for it to interrupt that!

We do lots of exploring on our rhino. Look after the gardens and fruit trees. Play with the dog. Cook (I love trying out new recipes). Sit on the front porch with a cold drink. Go for walks with Hubby and the dog. Look after the local cemetery (my latest project is to clean the headstones). Talk to lots of tourists who stop by. When I have to work (we run a small motel), I clean the rooms and do lots and lots and lots of laundry. *S*

With all the trails around that Rhino would be fun. I had a Kubota side x side. It was great. The only thing is I had quit walking. I need to walk and listen.

Tomchum: what do you do when you get bored? LOL

My wife and I relax and read at our cabin. There is always work to be done. At night we star gaze as they are so close you can touch them. Most of all, like someone else said, it's our happy place.

Yes, you can do work, without it being work. If that makes any sense.

A thread like this keeps me and my wife inspired. We are still in the begining stages of our plan to a simpler , yet richer life. Everything on here has been what we having searching for and think about everyday.

Things like tending to the garden, cooking on the grill, floating a nearby ozark stream catching smallmouth and keeping a few google eye for supper. Deer and turkey hunting. Making jerky.

Watching the stars at night without the glow of a nearby city, and quiet, just frogs, owls, and coyotes.

'' You aint heard quiet til you've heard the desert'' I'll pass. I like the creatures and all the sounds of the deep woods.
As long as we get away from the sirens and Harleys.

Most weekends involve building activities... With luck we will be 90% finished this fall. Most building days end watching the sunset with a glass of wine. When not building, we explore the surrounding area, hiking Tettegouche State Park, wandering the Superior Hiking Trail, finding agates along Lake Superior. Evening around the campfire.

Borrego, I used to camp in the desert around Yuma when stationed out there. It was very quiet.

as soon as i get settled in.after we unload.we walk about the property.see whats going on.
then we eat, rest up cause it is usually in the dusk as we get there.we read.we read alot.once gar read a book i had gotten him .and i,then read it.we had the most wonderful time relating and comparing notes on what we both got out of this book.it was so fun.i hope to find another book he would be interested in reading and then i could.we play cards.we sleep.then the morning comes.and we keep checking the tempature.its a big thing.how cold is it.he sleeps .i put on coffee and run out on the meadow.then we have breakfast.sleep some more...cause it stays cold out there till about ten in the morning.then it starts to warm up.this morning out at the cabin is 30 degrees.
so we get up and work.sit and rest and work.talk about what we want.some oppossing thoughts but i let it go cause i got my kitchen so whatever he does is good by me.i cannt demand this or that cause he knows what he can and can not do.
its sort of our special hiding place from the world.not too eager to have a mess of people come there.its high desert.sure is wonderful.

Every summer we have projects. This year we are putting up a half log wall to enclose our bathroom.
We are in one of the best sailing and boating areas in the world. Many small island to explore and some of the best salmon fishing. We are so far from city lights that we can see the milky way. There are usually a few good farm auctions going on,a farmers market on Fridays, walks on our beach with a good glass of wine at sunset. After retireing for the evening we read. Off grid with our head lanterns. No tv or cell phone to interrupt our peace.

Where's your cabin silverwaterlady? Sounds nice.

Who else gets up before the others in your family just to have coffee alone a and watch for wildlife?

We start every morning with a pot of an old time percolator coffee. We then sit on the porch and watch the wildlife. It is very relaxing.

all I did this weekend is sweat and kill horse flies

normally I work on the cabin or out in the woods hauling firewood, working on the driveway and trails, shooting, or otherwise improving the property.
