So I think my next project is to be a 24x24 pavillion. I will use 6x6 sunk 36 inches into the ground in a lean to fashion. I will be using 9-12 6x6 for the posts. My question is about the roofing. Tin sheets wil be around 700-800 dollars (More than all of the lumber combined) I was wondering what other people have done. I also saw plastic corrigated pannels has anyone tried them? if you have photos that would be awesome.

Have a look at this page - it has some pcis of my "pavilion" roof made using green corrugated plastic sheets.

CabinBuilder how long have your green sheets lasted?
I just installed clear Suntuff plastic corrugated on a shed and heard 7 years.
Sorry I do not have pics - it is a shed roof 12 X 16 with the pitch facing North. I thought that would be good for light, but it is a little too good - we bake, even though the pitch is away from the sun. Go with a color that will dim some of the light.
I bought mine at Home Depot, and after all the necessary installation pieces it ran to about $500 - also more than all the lumber combined.

Aren't they (almost) forever? I.e, plastic does not rot or decay, may just discolor. I had it for several years at the cabin and have similar (clear tinted) at home - do not expect any issues in my lifetime.
Keep in mind you need to use special screws to mount the sheets - ones with rubber washers ( they aren't cheap  ), otherwise roof will leak.
One thing about colored sheets - they will give a "colored" shade (i.e, under our roof everything looks greenish).

I like the platics but i can not find it very cheap.
Cabin builder I saw your pics, looks great. How are the 4x4's holding up. I would love to use 4x4s but i thought that I would have to use 6x6's. What is the pitch of your roof. How long have you had your pavilion up.
In Missouri it gets damn hot (summers often reach low 100') I want to build the pavilion to beat the heat. I plan on having the front posts at 13 feet and the back post at 8 feet. The 13 foot side would be facing north and the 8 foot side would face south. Any other ideas on how to beat the heat. What roof material would be best to reduce temp?

I'll say that is a little out of your way a couple of hours at least! I wasnt sure where you were. good luck and post some pictures when you figure out what to use.

I have found a picture of the Suntuff installed. It is a shed, so there are walls, unlike what you are doing.
The install is super easy, but you do need those fancy screws plus other things for proper install.

Here is an option for a cheap roof. At least I think it would be cheaper, I haven't priced the material recently. I think the product is called and asphalt roll. Basically it is heavy tarpaper with colored grit on it, commonly white. Just roll it out over the roof, nail it down and done. You get shade that way.

what size should the rafters be to span 24 feet, maybe 18. We get snow in missouri, most of the time it is 6 inches or less. As for the roofing material I am gong to be collecting water from the roof so I think that I will have to go with tin
