We almost have our small 12x28 dried in. Wondering about possibilites of insuring it. We are on remote land, access by our own driveway, We won't have a lot of $$$$ in this maybe between 8-10k. Just wondering if anyone has info. It would stink to lose the investment if we had a loss, but I think we may be rebuying the cabin every few years paying a premium. Fire is my biggest concern they do range burning each year sometimes it gets on to our place, but we have metal roof and engineered sidiing w/nothing combustible near ground and have cleared all tall grass and trees from cabin site just mowed short grass. Also if there are fire tips for those familiar would be great

Insurance. The insurance companies generally go by the number of dq ft and apply their formula to that to figure the replacement cost. They figure replacement on standard construction and as if it was being rebuilt by a paid contractor. Type os walls, roof, etc all make a difference. Plus no trees within 30 feet; ditto shrubs. Nearest fire department, nearest water for fire suppression. Our insurance company factored in all that. They also made a personal inspection and actually measured the tree clearances. Metal roof is good, maybe required by some insurance companies. Per sq ft it will cost much more than a home in a city/town with a local professional fire department. Maybe 3 to 4 x as much per sq foot.
Firewise info... a must read for those with rural / country properties

I got insurance from Nationwide for my 14 X 32 cabin. The agent did a site visit and was concerned about the wood stove -- I had to get a fire-resistant rug because they wanted more floor protection in the front, beyond the pad it sits on. (They also insure my home and vehicles.)
