Has anyone ever repainted a cast iron wood stove? Other than sanding and prepping....that includes sealing cracks and wiping with lacquer. Are there any box store high temp paints that work well? Anyone have a good experience using one of them?

I used just high temp black. It will smell for a short time after you get a hot fire going.

We did ours last year with Tremclad High Heat Enamel paint by RustOleum. http://www.rustoleum.ca/CBGProduct.asp?pid=194

We did one coat and then another about a month later. It has lasted very well with no rust reappearing.

Yep,just high temp black paint.That's all you can use on a wood stove.Makes it look like brand new!

This old stove was prepared with steel wool and then painted with high temperature paint.

I have built quite a few woodstoves over the years and I use tremclad high temp but I always heat up the stove before I paint it . I find it adheres better and lasts longer ! You don't have to get it cherry red hot but what I did was heat it with a propane torch from the inside so it's hot to the touch .
