Love our Canadian friends as they are keeping our local economy going. Go to Costco and the lot is packed with Alberta plates . . My hairdresser's hubby runs the local boat/atv/snowmobile dealership and Canadians are buying, buying, buying . . .BUT.they come here to nw montana because its so much cheaper to shop AND faster for healthcare . . .I'm no fan of socialized healthcare or the cost associated with it.

I'm all for paying taxes. They are necessary for schools, roads, etc. What really irks me is that most of the government officials are dishonest crooks!! We pay our taxes, don't cheat on anything and keep good, truthful records for our business.

Every year we get contacted by the assessment office to find out how much money we made so they can up our taxes. It takes us a lot of time to put together the package of information they want and we are just a Mom and Pop operation barely getting by. When I send them the information they need, I always send a sarcastic cover letter with it. Bob says it's gonna come back and bite me one day (even though he gets a good chuckle reading my annual letter) but I just get so mad at them trying to nickel and dime us when they are all stealing our hard earned tax money under their sticky desks.

Maybe it's time to wipe the slate clean and start over with new officials - ones that have undergone proper police checks (not bribed ones), etc. to make sure they are actually honest. Then they should be held accountable for everything they do. If they do something dishonest, they are OUT with NO pension - nothing! Maybe they'd think twice before they steal our money if there were actual consequences instead of a slap on the wrist and a goodbye with a big, fat pension.

As an aside, we are Canadian. We have health care for everyone (with long waits at times). Many hospitals here are filthy because the government doesn't want to pay for cleaners who actually clean them. Many patients get unnecessary infections from staying in those hospitals. I like our health care for everyone, but the government must be more responsible with OUR money and spend it wisely. If they did that, they system would work great!

I just read a story that right now in US congress they are voting on laws that will deregulate the big Wall St banks, gut the Dodd Frank bill which at least did something to regulate the banks. The story said that the congressmen that are voting for this new legislation to deregulate are getting paid 18 dollars on the dollar compared with the money being paid to the congressmen that are voting against it. The money is coming from the financial lobby, the largest lobby in Washington, which has 5 lobbyists for every person in congress.

Greenspan himself said that he regretted the path of total deregulation that he supported, and caused the 2008 banking debacle.

Throw the bums out.

Jefferson said there should be a revolution every 10 or 15 years. I think we are a little overdue....
