Some photos of the new work. I am excited that this much got accomplished while still relaxing.
Somehow my new camera didn't keep the pictures of the drywall. I am so disappointed.
Oh well, next time.

Congratulations on your first night in the cabin !
I remember my first night....I wouldn't want to say that I nearly froze to death....but I was up about every two hours putting logs on the fire. No insulation...but it was a great night....just like yours I suspect.
I think the picture of the deer outside your window is very unusual. I never saw wild animals laying down or sleeping so close to humans. Do you have her eating out of your hand yet?
We did the shelves for about a year but finally ran across some cabinets very inexpensive and that made storing things a lot better. I just saw eleven upper cabinets on craigslist (birch) for $240.00. I couldn't believe it.

Not sure how I missed this thread up until now. Your cabin looks wonderful!! I read back about your stairwell issue. We wept and gnashed about that same issue. We had actually first intended the type of stairs you now have but our builder talked us out of them, due to the space issue. We went with a ships ladder type and it's definitely a space saver...but it can be treacherous. My step mother actually fell down them in November.  Luckily, she was okay. I'm always looking for new options for safe/easy/compact staircases. I'd love to change ours out at some point.
P.S. You can add another woman to your count on here- I am female, despite my gender neutral user name.

Montanan...I'm sorry your mother in law fell down your steps...glad to hear she was okay-yikes!
KSalz...awesome progress on your cabin! so glad you've had your first nights there...isn't it fun?
I just can't believe you have moose that will just lay around right out your window! Hope you see them out your dining window as well as your bedroom window...so cool and so happy for you and your husband . How's the cooking on the wood stove doing?

We "cheated" a little with the moose. She liked the poplar we had to cut down to put the cabin in. Probably the only fresh nibbles she had in a LONG time. But we frequently have moose in this spot, so we keep an eye out.
The cabin is so comfy I don't mind it being "in progress" as much as I thought I would. We are living amid destruction/construction in our regular house because we are getting it ready to sell, and it would be nice to have one place complete. . . <sigh>
Ah well, we are warm, dry, and not using propane like water. I can't wait for summer when we can actually get in water lines and a full bath (no showers for now). Until then, it is short trips and showers at the laundromat if we need them.

Montanan, though I am sorry you MIL fell down your ships ladder it does make me feel a little better about our stairs. They seemed so big at first, but they are "real" stairs, and I think in the middle of the night we will be grateful for them.
I think I have figured out woodstove cooking. For one thing, I got over the getting-something-on-the-new-stove angst and just did it. Coffee pot is FINE on the top and gets moved to the pot keeper when it is hot enough.

I love the picture of the moose outside your place. We have moose here too, but very rarely see them.
Your place is coming along great!!!! Can't wait to see more photos.
That stove you have inside - is it a Coleman stove? Are those okay to use indoors? I am just curious because I'm thinking if they are okay for indoor use I might get one in case our power ever goes out here. It isn't something I had thought to try. I am always worrying about a power outage.

Great project.Always fun to build that dream place.I have seen your builders adds many times on the net.He must keep busy.People down in the lower 48 have never heard of Alaska State Land Sales, and buying through Ak is so reasonable,anyone could afford their Ak dream cabin.Good luck in your adventure!

Coleman stove is temporarily used in kitchen. We have a battery operated monoxide detector to check for problems. It is a new stove, we are very careful, and check all the time.
No progress on cabin for a while. We need to finish our house now to put on market very soon. Doing carpet removal and master bath remodel next. Uggggghhhhh! Will be nice when it is sold, but a pain now.

No progress on cabin, in fact, haven't been since January. Makes me sad.
However, the house we intend to sell is finally coming together. We bought all the supplies for the master bath. Found a contractor to do the work since I hurt my back pulling up carpet. Carpet install in a few weeks. House on the market, God willing by June. Daughter moving to her own place this week. Son looking for an apartment with friend. Whew.
Can't wait to live on property full time and start planning the retirement home build. Going to use same builder for sure. He did a fantastic, speedy, well-constructed build in time. Can't beat that!

Well, Trollbridge, this winter was pretty mild. But in the last two days we got over a foot of surprise spring snow. Good thing I asked our plow guy for one last sweep! Getting in wouldn't be much fun in gummy clay slop.
Back feels a little better today, but learned my lesson. No work until it is healed! That is what got me into trouble this time.
Daughter is closing on her house tomorrow, will help her clean (what I can without further injury) and then she has help moving boxes and the furniture.
How have trips with little Noelle been to the cabin? Easy at this stage. They get tough at 12 and 13. Think the cabin isn't as cool, for a while, if camping is anything like it.

Surprise snowstorms are fun 
Noelle has been to the cabin twice. It is easy to take her and she seems to like looking around. You are right about when kids get older, that's when they want to be home with friends and technology-silly little fools
Hope your home improvements continue to go smoothly and hope your house sells quickly once it hits the market. I'm sure you are very excited to get back to your beautiful cabin and watch those incredible moose!
My husbands birthday is the 5th of April so that will be when we get back to our cabin. I'm so, so excited to go!

We have had 2+ feet of snow in the last week. Nice winter we are having this spring!
My back is repairing very slowly. Reinjured (backtracked healing) several times now.
On the upside, daughter is all. Moved out, and so is some (with the exception of a few minor things.
Contractor is making me unhappy, not calling back or getting me an estimate yet. Now I am afraid it is too late to call in someone else! Ugh.
Wanted to get out of here this summer. Hope we can. Hubs is ready to retire.

I hope you have no more setbacks with your back...it is hard to not do what you are use to doing, but that's how it reinjures itself.
Hope you get contractor issues resolved quickly...what a headache!
We have winter hanging on here as well...the robins arrived and just this morning we got yet more snow. I have not minded though, it's pretty.

Sun is good in Alaska!!!
It is very strange having so much snow here and daylight until 8pm. During the longest days of winter it is dark by 4:30.

Unexpected visit to cabin this weekend before work begins on master bath. All was as we left it, except a lot more snow.
Didn't plan to work, just haul stuff up and relax. Hubby had several naps!

Walls are 8'. Husband made bed, so raised it high enough to put full sized action packers underneath. Has since lowered it. We are too old to vault into bed. LOL.
Wish now we had added pony walls upstairs for the headroom. Live and learn.
We really like the floorplan, but there isn't a lot of livingroom space. We knew we would sit at the kitchen table a lot.

Master bath needs mirror hung up and odds and ends to be complete (tomorrow). We are having an inspection done of the house so we can get any health and safety stuff out of the way. Then it goes on the market. We have to store most of out stuff.
But we did get some things done at the cabin aka new home. We got the exterior stained, and lots more wiring completed. Husband is going back tomorrow with more supplies and things we want at the cabin eventually. Boy is our conex full!!!
hopefully I can follow him down there and start lining up folks to move the plumbing and septic, as well as getting he buried electric lines connected to the box. I want a kitchen and bath for fall. The camper gets expensive to heat, and water freezing in pipes is a bad thing.
We got the camper furnace and toilet fixed for a fraction of new. My husband has become quite handy and adept in the 29 years we have been married.

KSalz - awesome thread... and I love the moose photo! I have been trying to find some really good moose antlers to hang in front of my ranch for 3 years.. lol.. but people want too much for them :P
People laugh because I was going to call it "The Moose Lodge" and they were like, "there are no Moose in SW Texas!".. "aaahh.. you just have not SEEN one yet!" ;)
Anyway, sure are beautiful photos Keep posting!

Thanks, Russ. I feel like we are trudging along, mostly because we have until fall to occupy full time.
Husband "thinks" long and hard about EVERY little thing. I am a go do it type, so we clash. I am trying not to nag, but it is almost the end of June and snow fell here in September last year. It was -5degrees in mid November. I am antsy.
If you want antlers you can find plenty of sheds here in Alaska in January-March. Of course, finding a mountable PAIR is another story.
Saw a Cow and two new calves crossing the road this morning. They moseyed on across the street, really taking their time, while drivers gave them right of way. Funny, I think they know they are holding up traffic.

Thanks, naturelovr66. We wanted the cedar siding to keep its natural beauty. The clear really doesn't look clear in the can, but goes on beautifully.
Husband is back at the electrical. He took a week off to work on the cabin because the weather has been phenominally nice this summer. Staining was a huge priority for him. With that done he is seeing progress. Went back with more electrical supplies and I found the drive we have been looking at for a really good price, app huge is going to look at it there in town. Please God let him buy it!!!!. I want some external progress, because I know this is all going to come so fast. Putting the big house on the market in the next week.
