I have a couple streams on my property and I live on shores of fraser river. The law as written basically means i cant disturb any soil or cut any trees on my property. All around me I see people cutting trees down like crazy as if there are no laws at all. Id like to preserve and improve ecosystem but would like views without being terrified of getting huge fine. trails and bridges over creeks would also be nice.
Seems like it is best to cut as much as you can while law is not being enforced. people seem to be penalized for keeping trees etc becausse new draconian laws are passed and suddenly you are a wetland and you must carry the entire cost of fighting environmental degradation which is more an immigration and india/china problem.

A dead tree can be a threat and dangerous, and needs to be removed. 
And if a guy was to drive a copper spike into them, they would die also. Just saying....
Or it could of had a rotten core, exposed roots making it weak during a windstorm, bark beetle, the excuses goes on and on....

Usually no cutting pertains to a game creek and typically there is a 100 to 200 foot setback required before you can cut vegatation.
The only way you can cut vegatation below the buffer area is if you have a building with a concrete foundation 100 to 200 ft away from stream), trees can then be cut if they pose a hazard to your home and can even be cut closer see DNR regulations "Domino Effect" at least in Washington State.

I'd think about selling and buying something else that wasn't a ticking time bomb waiting to cause me grief. I would not want to own anything that one day could be called a protected wetland.

what piece of legislation are you refering to, don't always listen to what people tell you. Read it yourself they might be wrong. Canadian statutes can be found by googling "ELAWS"

Its kind of complicated but the main law is
A bc provincial law called rar which came
In 2006. The law is administeted by local
Governments. It replaced streamside
Protection act. It overrules federal law ie dfo.
There is a pdf file which instructs local government
on implemention. If no fish or food in creek
Setback might be only 7.5m. Very complicated
And expensive for homeowner.

Close to fraser river I can cut but will be
Buying copper spikes. Actually I like
Trees but s view would be nice if

Another weird question, hoping someone might know off the top of there head.
In BC whats required to build mirco hydro?
I've googled and I'm reading a lot of info on the process to making micro hydro and selling the power to BC hydro. All of the things they seem to discuss are far larger than what I was thinking. maybe a few small water wheels, nothing intrusive. perhaps floating ones on the surface.
Anyways if anyone knows where to find info on the regulations I would love to know where I should be looking.

Reddly, have you seen the new technology Micro turbine for semi fast flowing Rivers ? I saw this recently and got excited as to the prospects of it. Basically it is a free standing unit that you lower into the flowing water and Bamm instant power. No pipes to run, just the power lines and such.
I'll dig it up for you if you are interested.
As I too am going the Micro Hydro route on my property. Micro Hydro Blows Solar away no contest.

That sounds very interesting I would love to take a look. I wonder what (if any) impact studies have been done as well. Seems thats the hoop to jump through these days. But yes please EvoQ if you can find the link that would be great.
