I got a 2005 Polaris 250cc 2x4. It is in really great shape. Any guesses on price?

I will insure it from theft and i will take the advise you guys gave about - lock it to a tree, remove battery and seat when I leave, and install some cameras. I will also make a simple roof over it or tarp it.

Any other tips?

You buy from individual or business. 1000.00 to 2000.00 individual and 2000.00 to 3000.00 from business.

Any other tips?

Now you need a small trailer. You may have to modify it to hold things about 8 feet long. Flat bed with short sides recommended. Too tall will tip over.

Get your hitch worked out. You will want to connect / disconnect very easily, quickly.

Get some "ratchet straps", and a bag on the ATV to hold them.

Get a small air pump, and a method to patch tires. Plugs if tubeless, or patch kit if tubed. You may need to run low pressures if ground is soft.

Get a siphon hose so you can steal gas out of your car for the ATV.

We paid quite a bit of money to have a really good quality winch put on our quad. It can be used front or back. The second time we went out, we hit some sand and slid until the quad was hanging sideways over a cliff. We managed to scramble out to safety. We were REALLY glad we bought that winch. It took us about an hour, but we managed to save it from going over the edge.

We always carry an extra can of gas, some water, first aid kit, folding shovel and lots of bungee cords. Our quad is a side by side so we have a bit more storage space.

Some of our guests showed up a few weeks ago on a side by side with tracks fitted to it instead of tires. They said the tracks worked GREAT in the snow and even had a competition with someone on a snowmobile to see if they could keep up with them - they did. They said the only down side (other than price) was that the quad used 3X more gas with the tracks on it than tires!! They had hoped to use the tracks year round but said they wouldn't because of the gas issue. But in the snow they said it was great!!

thanks for the tips!

Bought a camo tarp for it and I'll buy a chain and lock tomorrow.

Geico quoted me 169$ a year for the insurance w/ theft protection but it has $500 deductible on that so I am going to call a few other companies tomorrow to see if they can beat that price. Quite annoying.

I wouldn't insure it if it was me. Between the premiums and the deductible, you would only recoup at most a couple hundred dollars. For the money invested, this is something that I would self-insure.

Oh I am dreaming......of when we can get us an ATV.
It is just too far down the list at the moment.

Have fun.

Ditto the insurance, or rather, not to insure it. Insurance is for those things you could not possibly afford to pay for. If you paid them the 169 premium today and it was stolen tomorrow after the deductible you get $350. They will give you what you paid for it. 350 - 169 = 181 in your pocket. Does not compute for me.
