Use what it calls for. Higher octane burns slower and will not fully combust in your cylinder, more flame out the exhaust port. Not helping or doing anything for you or your engine. Higher octane fuel is for higher compression engines with more advance timing.

A little off topic, but my Stihl farmboss is constantly throwing the chain off. I keep it oiled with plenty in the reservoir. And, I have played with the tensioner...too tight, it won't roll. Not tight enough and it comes off. Taught and I can get about 10 minutes out of it. Frustrating.

Maybe there's some gunk between the bolts and bar, keeping it from tightening properly? Or your bar or sprocket needs replacement?

Not all chains are created equally. Perhaps the bottom teeth are not sufficient for your bar? Or worn down?
Throwing the chain often would make me nuts...
