I got my Security Six passed on from my dad and it is one of my favorite shooters! I changed to the Hogue grips and doctored up the sights so they're more visible. A great gun!!!

Every cabin should have a pump 12 gauge. There is someting about the sound of pumping it that communictaates better than any verbal threat.
357 is too small for hogs unless you get a perfect shot in the ear. Than 22 would do it. I found this out first hand. In the ecitement I muct have shot five ronds into the hog's forhead. Then I calmed down and put one in the ear.
My normal open carry gun is a Ruger New Vaquero 45 colt that was worked over by Clements. I also have one of those anniversary 44 mag flat tops. It is a it big for everyday carry.

My son's friend, Richey, related a story to us. He worked for a rendering house for a bit. Got a call from a farmer. Needed his pet pig put down. Richey took his 357, found the hog, shot it in the head several times. Strolled over to the farmer.

I just bought a Ruger SP101 .357 myself a week ago. I really like it & so does my wife (that really surprised me). She was shooting light 38 loads & liked it better than my Bersa .380 auto. She was shooting it almost as good as me & I have been shooting for a long time. She just started to shoot. I would recommend that to you Wildwood, because if my wife can shoot it well, I would think that anyone would be able to.

Gary, I know how many I have, I know I'm missing 11 from my list. ;D I have a huge walk in closet, but 2 smaller safes. I have a home security system and no one knows the combos to the safe except me. So just to let everyone know, they are all secuyrely stored. I'm also a full reloader. I have dies for everything I own. I havent left any spent cases behind in years. ;D

Well, in all honesty, is started out small. You know, a few here, a few there. I liked everything I had, so I would never sell one to obtain another. Before you know it, its gotten a little nuts. Trick is to be the only one with the safe combo. Bring the new firearm home, leave it secured in your truck in the garage, then when the wife leaves, slide it into the safe. And if she never knows what you have, she wont ask, "when did you get that" and if she did, I'd say "oh, I've had that for years" :D

Update. Bought my wife a Tarus 94 .22 lr 9 shot revolver. Showed her the proper way of shooting it & she is shooting like a true marksman now. Next to save up for is a Ruger SR9c in stainless in 9mm :-)

An update since I posted a while back...
I did get the Black powder 1851 colt Navy confederate in .44
I then got the buffalo (12" barrel) in a 1858 Remington new army .44 cal black powder.
Shoting those was a hoot but the black powder i slow and dirty..I then picked up a pair of Ruger Vaqueros in .45 Colt..Stainless with 5.5 " barrels.
Then since those are cowboy guns I needed a Cowboy rifle...earlier this year I picked up a Uberti 1873 Winchester level action in .45 colt.
Gifts from my dad included 2 rifles in .22 ( one scoped) and a 9 shot Double 9 .22 pistol (double action)
So in about a year and a half I went from zero guns to 8 ...boy howdy this new sport is going to be fun

Looks like i am late to the party with a follow on for your shotgun choice. But, an 870 will give you a lifetime of use/abuse. Add a slug bbl to a already versatile 28" factory bbl w/various chokes and you can take anything in North America!
I also play a Takimine, EF340SCGN. I have had it for about 2.5 years and it is a very fine player for me. Cedar top gives awesome tone.

so true of all the guns i own, never had a REM 870 until about 4 years ago, traded a bow for one , and picked up another for $110 a year later,and got a new ( used) slug barrel for $80---my truck gun for sure. My turkey gun is a 870 with a red dot and turkey tube choke in xtra full.

REM 870 here too...use the short rifled deer barrel on it with a slug. Have several other guns hidden around the house, in case of emergency/safety (wife knows location too)

I think my 45/70 has a nice recoil. That has got to make your vision go blurry! Are you launching a 600 gain bullet? I would love to shoot that just once.

Being in grizzly country, I keep a S&W .500 handy at the cabin for when we go backpacking and hiking. Wifey carries a .44. I keep a Tokarev 7.62x25 for two legged varmints. Also a Savage pump 12 ga. and a .17 HMR Remington for pack dogs and coyotes.

A fellow I work with bought a house a few years back with most of the contents included. Well, he found a gun that was made in 1897 (!!!). It is a .41 Long Colt. Do any of y'all know about reloading for this oddball cartridge, have you shot it or fired it before, etc.? Do you think it is safe to shoot with smokeless powder or should we stick to the black powder? It is my co-worker's firearm, but he said I could shoot it if I can reload for it. I have done this before, so I know what I am doing, but just with more modern rounds (.270 Winchester).
