Since we're talking guns in the forum, I thought I'd see if anyone wanted to list their armaments......

Thanks, I'm thinkin' I need a shotgun, a Ruger Mini 14 (.223) and then I'll be complete. (although this is all for fun ya understand ;) I collect guns and guitars, have a passion for both.....
Can't decide on a shotgun - Coach Gun, Remington 870, or assault shotgun. Any ideas?

I agree with flatwater about the guns. No one knows what I've got. But guitars, now there's another story. I've got a couple of acoustics; Takamine, Alvarez Yari, Epiphone, and an Ovation (early 70's models except the Tak), and in electric a Gibson Les Paul Studio, a fake Percision, and an early Fender Jazz Bass. A bunch of other instruments are housed here between my son and I including mandolins, fiddles and harps (harmonicas). Lots of fun.

Well, I guess I'm not paranoid enough, but a lot of the serious gun sites I look at, the guys list all their guns, Mil Surp and all. With 350,000,000 guns in the US, no one could ever go after them. I don't trust our Government a lick, but I don't see them ever coming after our guns.
Anyway, speaking of guitars, I love and collect Gibsons! 1 J-185 acoustic and 6 Les Pauls, all Historics or antiques.
Lots of Marshall amps!!!!

Borrego, Thats what Germany, Australia and most all the other countries thought. They will never go after our guns. In the great imposter's cabnet you will find some of the most gun hating Socialist/comunist's around.

Well, I agree in principle, I just think we have way too many weapons and we are of a different mindset than the Europeans. You ain't takin' an American's guns away. Not gonna happen and they know it. Having said that, better safe than sorry :-)

I would just like to really know how many in America are of a different mindset and how many think Obama is the next Christ. He just signed a law in to effect that will let Interpole police to opperate in the USA.

Even the few mushy headed liberals I know don't think that - I don't know anyone that does, but I live in a conservative community. Hopefully Obama is just a momentary glitch in the overall scheme of things......

Nice song. It is good to be American.
By the way,I know what you mean about the BP thing. I hve been playing with a 45-70 Rolling Block that shoots a 535 gr bullet. A little while back I shot it thorgh 18 in of stump. Pretty cool.
Then I got distracted by a Maritni .310 cadet take down. I have been casting for both the RB and the Martini. I figure that is a good skill to have these days. For fun I did some casting over an open fire on a fishing trip. Good fun and patriotic too. And, as Mrs Nugent says, "You can't do that in France".

In MS we do not have waiting periods,but recently I went to the local walmart to buy me a new ruger 10/22 and I went and filled out the form 4473 and was waiting as always to get my new 10/22 and then be taken for the walk of shame to the car while the FFL made the NICS call and he hangs up after a few minutes and said that I had been delayed.That made me mad because first I had never been delayed or denied before and I felt as if I was being treated like a criminal the FFL guy was being really nice before he made the call and the his attitude made a complete 180 and he said that when they call him back with the answer he would call me.So I kept my cool and went home to the googler machine and done some research.
After 3 days the FFL can make the sale if he/she wants to so I went to walmart 4 days later and they said that it was a walmart policy that they do not transfer the firearm without an NICS approval.So a week and a half passed and many hours reading others horror stories of walmart firearm purchases and the guy called and said he could proceed with the transfer and I told him"No thanks,during the time I have had to wait I realized that if I need some new underwear I would shop at walmart and next time I need a firearm I would shop elsewhere" and I went later that day to a local gun shop and bought a new ruger 10/22 for a better price and was approved on the spot with a 4 minute phone call.
I have seen on the www that walmart has given so many others the same hassle they give me.
Just sharing my experience that I hope no one else will have to experience.

So how do you like the 10/22 ruger. I was thinking of getting something like that since the .357 costs a lot to shoot. I figure a .22 like a ruger might get me out shooting more often.

The ruger 10/22 is a great rifle.I have owned one for about 25 years and it shoots just as good as my new one. The 10/22's have so many mods and aftermarket parts it makes them my only choice for a rimfire.You can buy everything except the actual receiver.
Ammo? dirt cheap I pay $20 for a box of 550 rounds it's the cheap-o federal bullets but I hit what I'm aiming at.The ruger 10/22 has a 10 round clip that sits flush but I have some 25 round clips (butler creek STEEL LIPS)that I'll pop rounds off as fast as my finger will pull the trigger.lol.
Research the 10/22 and look on youtube and you'll see thousands of people saying the same thing I do about it.All around great gun.
I didn't mention that my new 10/22 is a sweet digi-camo color that matches almost all my gear.

I had the same thing happen to me. I never had a problem and suddenly I started getting delayed. I applied for and received a UPIN number that I put on the ATF purchase form and that solved the problem. Apparently there are not too many UPINs out there because everytime I use it the clerks have never seen one and the NICS people don't know how to deal with it. I don't get delayed but it usually takes NICS about a half hour to figure it out.
To get a UPIN you need to act within a certain period after the last delay. You have to consent to the feds keeping records on your transactions (back door registration). It takes about six months.
My wife works for the gov and has a pretty high clearance. I have been told by gun dealers near national labs that a family member with such a clearance can trigger a delay. I asks NICS about this and they said absolutely not. Do I believe them? No, I have heard too many stories of sudden delays happening to people in that line of work.

As a female looking to build my cabin in the mountains of northeast tennessee, I feel I may need to have a gun of some type. My cabin will be a short distance off the highway on a one lane dirt road but there are many problems with drugs in my area of the country.
What suggestions would my fellow bloggers have to offer? In additon to two legged trustpassers, I will also have exposure to copperheads, rattlesnakes and wild boars.

If you're going to pack make sure you pick something you always have with you, otherwise it does you no good. Almost anything is enough for snakes. Wild boars and two legged critters are another matter.
The sight of a gun on your hip will probably deter many two legged critters. The wild boar won't care. Is the boar aggressive or do you just need to make a loud noise to scare them off?
I would say pack as much firepower as you can comfortably keep on target. For most people I know this is something in the 9mm/38/40/357 range.
Get some time with the different calibers and see if you prefer a pistol or revolver. If you have a local gun range inquire to see if they have lessons and different guns you can shoot.
I really like my Ruger GP100 .357 revolver. My mother shoots a snub nose .357 revolver with .38 Special loads, my brother packs a Kahr PM9 9mm auto. The all get the job done.

I agree with Mike. Ruger makes classic .357's and an added benefit is you can practice with the much cheaper .38 load. And a revolver is a good first choice as it is always ready to go, won't misfire and will not confuse you in a moment of panic.

The Ruger SecuritySix and SpeedSix are classic .357 revolvers, now out of production. The GP100 is the primary replacement for them. The SP101 is the smaller frame version that my mother shoots. They also have conceal-carry model called the LCR that I don't know anything about. Ok, end of Ruger advertisement.
A .357 revolver can shoot mild .38s, hotter 38+P loads or the .357 mag rounds. This gives the shooter a great deal of flexibility in finding a round that they are comfortable shooting and can shoot accurately.
If you are looking at a short barreled gun, <3", the .357 has a great deal of noise and muzzle flash because it uses slow burning powder and really works best in a 4" or longer barrel. The 38 or 38+P works much better in a short barrel.
General muzzle energy:
38 - 250 ftlbs
38+P - 300s ftlbs
9mm - 350 ftlb
357 - 550 ftlbs
