Browsing around I noticed there seem to be quite a few fellow Ozarkians on the site. I am curious as to who all here owns or is looking for land in the MO/AR region? Im fairly new to the area so I'm always looking to chat with people you have more expertise about the region than I do. Do you have any favorite hiking trails, local landmarks, fishin spots, etc you wouldnt mind to divulge maybe?

Vilander bluff is the highest point on the meramec and a really cool hike. The state just put in a new parking lot and it is right off of a state highway.

I have a couple good fishing spots id be willing to trade but we would have to talk via pm first a bit. Some of the waters are fragile and posting names publicly could add too much fishing pressure potentially. catch and release only of course.

We live in northeast Missouri but just bought a place near Mountain View , Mo. We plan to move there in about 10 years.

I haven't found any great fishing spots yet, but it all lots fishy. Most of my fishing has been around Mark Twain Lake.

Near Eminence there is Alley Spring and Rocky Falls. Both are very cool.

Hi Paul we have our cabin is near sullivan mo we have 122 acres with a spring fed creek that had water in our swimming hole all last year though the drought. we use our property for hunting hiking 4 wheeler riding and just hanging out by the fire. we have an a frame cabin that is 24x36 to stay in. we just love the ozark mountians. we fish mainly down at lake of the ozarks dont really have a hot spot or a fishing hole just try to pattern fish at different times of the year

That sounds like a nice set up with a spring fed pond. I'm south of you a little ways on highway n. I have friends here at home who's parents have a ranch off of highway d. I don't hunt out there sadly. non resident tags are very expensive plus I cant get the extra tags residents can. I try to spend at least 1 weekend a month out there but sometimes work gets in the way. I hope the rivers are better this year I was starting to worry they would all dry up.

It has some interesting reports and stories on it. 724 outdoors is another one .

Its a shame you can't get a land owners permit even though you are an out of state resident.

The Lake of the Ozarks is a great lake, tons of fish . Bass fishing is most of what I have done there, but I know the whites run up the creeks, and big crappies around the brushy docks.

Glad the rivers didn't dry up. Last year would have put them to the test.

The Jack's is on my short list. Is it floatable up near you? I know it is from Eminence down pretty much all the time. You picked a great area to retire.

I havent fish many lakes in Missouri I'm still stuck on fishing the spring fed creeks and rivers for small mouth. I have a decent large mouth pond 5 mins from my home and I fish carlyle in the summer for whites or cats.

Steve, My uncle lived near piedmont but he passed away last year. I have been to the shut-ins a few times. That is one of the most amazing spots in the state.

From Buck to Alley Spring it is a lot more dragging if it's low but bigger smallmouths. Alley Spring to Two Rivers is always good.

is there any public parking at or near that 17 bridge? The paddlers guide just says access, not mdc access.

That is a great view steve, I can see why you picked it. looks like you dont have to worry too much about flood insurance either lol.

I dont think I could handle having so many lakes within a 45 min drive. I would never show up for work again lol

I live on the southeast edge of the Ozarks, my grandson is the 6th generation on this farm. I fish a lot of the creeks in the southern part of the Ozarks wading, canoe or kayak.

Our Cabin is north of Berryville, AR just BARELY in Arkansas. We love the area and are planning on retiring on the land we own there and hope to purchase some of the adjacent property as well.

yes we like our A-frame it has 8 foot walls on the sides before the A so we have flat walls and the loft is in the A if you will. It work good for our water harvester so we have an in side toliet be plus for the girls having that. we used to have an outhouse.

We bought in Ozark Co. Mo. Nothing but sticks and rocks. Hoping to start building something this year. We really like the laid back lifestlyle!

It is different in that sense. Most folks are easy going and not rushed. My blood pressure is a lot lower when we are there.
