Hello - I posted some shots and a hello on another thread, but it didn't get posted, so I'm going to give it a try here. We purchased this cabin about a month ago in the Cable area of Wisconsin. It's off-grid with a wood stove for heat, solar and propane for lights, a 70' deep well with a pitch pump for water, an outhouse and a wood fired sauna. It came with a 16'x32' barn and a 1957 Ford Jubilee tractor. We'd been looking for about 10 years and finally pulled the trigger. It's not on water, but it's within walking distance to a secret swimming hole and about a mile from a small lake with a few cabins on it and a small public beach. I've enjoyed reading some fo the threads on this site and I'm sure I'll be posting questions about this and that as time goes on.

Thanks! Tom

At our request, the owner left much of the furnishings. The above picture is how he had it setup, and this picture is how it looks now with some of our own stuff added. Plus a couple of the wood fire sauna. Can't wait for summer to open all the windows and doors and have a nice fire pit outside.

Thanks for more pictures. Your land is pretty-I like the pine trees and I love the sunlight shining into your cabin. I also love, love, love the floors and your touches make it warm and cozy inside. You have got to be extremely excited!

I want your sauna...ahhhh, that would be great! Do you have a shower?

Even more pics, please

Thanks Trollridge - Some sort of shower setup is in order. Right now, when the wood stove that heats the sauna is fired up, there's a water basin that holds about 10 gallons of water that get's heated by the fire. There's a spigot on it so you can fill buckets or the solar shower bag with the hot water. We then cool the water down a bit with well water and then either shower in the sauna with the solar shower hung up, or I like to just step outside on the deck and pour the water over me. scrub a little and then pour more over me. It's pretty great. I would like to build a structure to hold a large black barrel that will catch rain water and heat by the sun (spring, summer, fall) and have a proper outdoor shower build beneath that. Not sure that will happen this summer, but it shouldn't take too much work. I figure I can build it in Minneapolis at our house and bring it up to the cabin. I haven't checked the forum yet for shower ideas, but I'm guessing there are some out there. I love showing it off, so here's some more pictures of the barn and privy.

Very nice...now give me your barn too! Ha!

The people before you did a fine looking job. We need to address the shower issue too, but are trying to finish the interior cabin work. This weekend my husband is working on the loft railing and I'm hoping he makes great progress...I wish I was there, but there wasn't room in the van for the rest of the family. He was very loaded down, but it hopefully is one of our last big hauls.

What kind of kitchen set up do you have?

I think it's almost required you ski if you are in Cable, huh?!

Here's the kitchen. There's just a catch basin under the sink for the gray water.

Yes, lots of skiing up in cable. The mountain biking and road riding are incredible as well.

It's just a weekend deal right now. Pretty easy to get to at just under 3 hours away though.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I'm looking forward to spending time browsing through all the other cabins on this forum thread.

I'm used to working on things, so I feel a bit guilty just buying and not having to do too much too it, but it has been great not having to spend time working on it and being able to enjoy it right from the start. We bought our house about 13 years ago and I'm still not done with all the projects I've started on it, so I guess not having another big project is a good thing right now.

I have spent days trying to find out more about your home after seeing it on facebook. Thank you so much for posting some inside pics also. Just makes me want it more, so perfect for where I want to build it. Is there plans for sale anywhere? Any help would be deeply appreciated. I'm sure you enjoyed your summer in a very beautiful home and area.

Hello Razordigger - Sorry for not responding until now. The guy I bought from designed it, drew up the plans and just kind of went for it. He had help from an architect friend as well. I have the basic plan view drawing he did if you'd be interested in that. I could make a copy and mail it to you. Let me know.

Thank you for your reply. I am planning ahead and plan on starting my cabin in the next 18-24 months. I would love a copy of your basic plan drawing as I am starting to obtain materials as i can. I would be happy to reimburse copying and postage costs. I am not really familiar with this site a lot. Do you feel it ok for me to post my address in an open message?
