Is there a website dedicated to real (1700-1800s) cabins? I'm looking at land with one on it and wanted to find out more info. It's made of hand hewn timbers.

I have a friend who is a dendro-chronologist. In plain English, he's a tree ring expert. One of the things he does is take core samples from the logs in old cabins. This establishes the age of the cabin, among other things. Interesting stuff.

check out the foxfire books if you want historic type info, the books were done by a high school class who went araound interviewing old timers in rural appalachian mountains (hill billies) and asking them how they did things, the older ones lived in the late 1800s and remembered what their grandparents taught them. books include how to build a cabin described by poor folks who did it the old way.
