As we look toward building a 10x20 bunk house, I have looked for small stoves that will not run you out. I found this: http://www.marinestove.com/sardineinfo.htm
These things are cool. You can get something for tiny houses.

I've seen those sardines and they look nicely made. But it is so tiny that it will hold very little wood. Definitely wont keep a fire going all night while you sleep. But, as you say, it won't roast you out either.

Propane heaters have the advantage of a thermostat, which woodstoves don't of course. You can damper woodstoves down a bit but you can't shut them off and turn them on like a propane heater.

I have a small woodstove (Morso Squirrel) that I plan to instal in my 300 square foot cabin. It will probably be too much heat when it's cold enough to need heat, but not very cold. Also, it's too small to burn overnight. So, I'm considering installing both that stove and a small direct vent propane heater. I don't want to use propane heat alone cause that's expensive. Having both heaters, I can crank up the woodstove to heat the building initially when i get there, then let the propane heater take over by thermostat when I'm asleep and the woodstove burns down. In the fall and spring when the stove is too much maybe I use the propane heater alone, since not much is needed so I won't spend too much on propane.

Best of both worlds, but I have to buy and instal two appliances instead of one.

Fusil, I looked into this heavily... I am big n researching things to death.

I am getting this:
http://www.salamanderstoves.com/docs/64/the_hobbit_stove/

Made in UK, under 1k, and perfect for small areas (I have a 12x12 with loft).

Hands down - the best option I found. Free shipping from UK.

I really like the Little Cod, it should work well in my 256 sq. ft. cabin.
