Hello all,
I am having a well dug in 2 wks and I need a well pump to run off my Honda EU3000 the rated running watts 2800 start up watts 3000. The well will be about 20 to 30' deep. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your Honda will start and run any 1\2 hp jet pump I have ever seen.Good luck with the well ..

Thats what I was thinking, but then I spoke to the manufacture and they said the start up will take 4000 watts to start up. I only have 3000 watts to work with. Does anyone have the EU3000 that is running a 1/2 jet pump? I think he may have been overestamating that sounds like alot of watts for this pump.

I am headed out to my cabin next week. I have an EU3000 genny running my well pump. Well is 225 deep or so, and then pumps uphill several hundred feet to a holding tank.
I will look up what pump I have and report back. Won't until the 17th that I get back. Sorry if that is too late. I can possibly post while there if I get a signal.

Sounds good... Thank you. I think the mfg made a mistake. I just spoke to northern tool and they don't think I will have a problem, but of course if there is nothing wrong with the pump I can't return it so I have to roll the dice on this one.

1/2 HP motor will be around 900 watts with startup in the 3-5X range. Most well pumps do not start under pressure (there may be some oddball deep well thing that does), its just an impeller in water so it should start pretty easy.
Keep wire runs to it short and heavy. Use a good quality extension cord (10AWG) if possible. Cheap extension cords can cause voltage drop and make the motor spin up slowly....which makes the generator operate at its surge rating longer.....more chance to trip out.

Thanks Gomer... It looks like I may have a problem. Does anyone know of a pump with a low watt start up? I could run it no problem, but that start up is going to kill it for me.

I can let you know on Friday May 10th. Sorry it's not sooner.
I have a very heavy cord from the switch box to the generator, running a fat twistlock plug. It hardly runs above idle while pumping, I have to listen carefully to know when it shuts down after filling my tank. Startup surge in minimal.

Thats not what I was saying at all. Three times 900 watts is well within your generators capability...I think its going to work without any trouble at all. The generator will cough on startup but it should be fine.
A compressor or other hard to start device might be pushing it.

I have a 3/4hp well pump sitting down at 300' that I could run off of my Honda EG3500. It coughed a little a startup but never stalled out. I think you may be okay.

I spoke to the manufacture about an hour ago and they said the running watts is 1050 watts and it could be up to 5 times that amount for a second to get the pump going. I think I will have to just take a chance and hope that it will work. It would be great if someone could recommend there pump that they have working already off of the Honda EU3000
