I have a great local laundrymat, but it's a good drive away, and occasionally I've had trouble with people using bleach before I get to the machine ... with predictable problems with my load of dark clothes ... so I thought I'd buy a small washing machine to keep me in clean ... well, everything.
I recently purchased the second smallest Haier, the 23E, hooked it up to a waterbarrel with a 12v on demand pump (shurflo revolution) and plugged it into my solar system inverter.
It's 11:30 a.m. here and my solar system batteries are on "absorb." Now my system might need the full 800 watts to get to 14.7 and the absorb cycle to start, but as the batteries charge the power required drops. This morning I was at 350 watts to keep the batteries in the absorb mode and so I began to wash clothes.
I'm happy to report that my batteries are charging in the absorb cycle nicely even while my washing machine is running. The system reports I am using 650 watts. So I am running my washer for free! The washer appears to max out at around 350 watts. 345 is the stated draw.
I am temporarily using a 50 gallon water barrel that I fill at the well and then haul over to the washing area. The Haier uses some water. I can manage one "large" and one "small" or two "medium" loads on one tank of water.
The clothes are coming very clean. I give it a thumbs up there. I use cold water and liquid detergent I got on sale. Nothing special.
The spin cycle gets the clothes quite dry. Another bonus. A few hours on the line and even towels are dry. On one large load test I did run an extra spin cycle but it didn't seem to extract anymore water.
The Haier is pretty small. 8 gallons or so. Very frugal on electricity. Uses a lot of water (relative to my supply anyway). And sure beats hiking into town to stay caught up on tshirts et al.
I give it a big thumbs up.
How are you washing clothes?

Ive got the haier hwd1000.Small rv size 110 volt combo washer/dryer.It doesn't hold much but does go easy on the water.I never have used the cloth drying feature in it.It's just as easy to hang everything out on a cloth line to dry.Works great for me running on my honda eu2000i.During the winter I hang everything inside my cabin to dry,puts needed moister into the air.

We have this exact unit but as we just moved in this week, haven't used it yet so can't give a true review.
We bought both the washer and dryer. Went ahead and got the dryer for those extra cold days or rainy weather.
We tested the dryer and it seems to run fine on one Honda EU2000i while the washer appears to need extra power on the spin cycle. On test day we still had a few power tools in operation so I am hoping that was the problem but I will let you know on our first real use.

Thanks Creeky for the review!! We are going to be living in our cabin for a while before our retirement home is built. I have electricity and a well, and was reluctant to get something like this because I hadn't heard any "real" reviews. Our laundromat is 15 miles round trip, and VERRRRRY busy in the summer tourist season (they offer showers as well). So just doing laundry is a huge hassle. Looking up a haier now!

For years we would either run to the laundromat, or smuggle clothes back on the plane to wash. I bought the cheapest washer I could find at Home Depot, and just run it off my generator. Probably has saved me 100 hours of vacation at the laundromat, and a few bag fees...
i just hang dry everything.

Holy cow....I'm tired just watching that woman!!! That looked like a lot of work for a few bath mats. I can't imagine her doing that for a whole family's laundry!!! It makes you appreciate all the modern luxuries we have now. I like hanging my laundry indoors or outside on the line, but washing it like that? I don't think I could do that. We'd just be wearing dirty clothes all the time. *LOL*

lol.hi hattie.i love it.i think oh.goody.exercises outside in the good old air.
i want gar to make me one of these handy little washers.i like the idea more of putting dirty clothes in a clean plastic garbage can with soap -put them in the back of the truck and go to town.then they are geting clean with no work.then come home rinse and hang out on a clothes line.

my grandma used a wringer washer out on the farm and even she said that the wringer was dangerous and wouldn't let the girls use it until they were older. that tub laundry device would have made her laugh.
i didn't think of putting my laundry in a can and driving around. now that's an innovative solution. watch. we'll see on on TV next week. the can-do-matic or some such. but wait. act now and we'll send you a free box of ash to make your own soap.

actually everyone.that idea of the garbage can is from carla emory from the encyclopedia (wr sp?)of county living.that gal knew how to do everything.
