Anyone know a good solution for keeping Barn Swallows from building nests on my windows and shutters? I already gave in on one high back window and installed a nesting box just to keep the nest off the house. Dirty little creatures.

A really hungry barn cat is all we have found that works.
There is a trick for boat lift canopies. Take a piece of string, fishing line, what have you, and run it through a few empty shotgun shotgun shells, and mount it in the way of the corners / nesting areas. This would not be a very attractive exterior solution.

Smear a thick film of grease or vaseline on the horizontal surfaces!
Works for me.
