a friend gave me an idea to avoid a septic (which cost 15k in NY to put in..)
Run a 1 pint flush toilet (same has in an RV) into a 32 gallon portable sweage tank (also made for RV) and then empty it when it gets pretty full.
Only myself and my wife use the cabin and I will also make an outhouse that I will use. We use the cabin every other weekend so from my estimates - I will probably need to empty it once every several months if not longer.
I am not sure how to do the plumbing though....
I want the flush toilet to empty directly into the storage tank. I believe I need a vent of the tank to allow the air to escape. If someone can help me with a plumbing drawing - that will be great.

How about a natures head composting toilet? No plumbing. No need for an outhouse.

Well I can say this much.....I had a similar system in a campground. You will definitely not get a few months of even casual use out of it. And when you do decide to empty it......just be prepared!!!! Even several days of poo and pee left alone in a nice dark warm container do amazing things........ especially in temps above 50.

yankeesouth - those toilets use 1 pint but you do need more to flush. 1 pint = 0.125 gallon. So even if I use 0.5 gallon per flush I should be good for a few months: 32 gallon / 0.5 = 64 so if my wife uses the toilet 3 times over a weekend (Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon) every other weekend that should be 21 weekends. We stay there 2 weekends a month = 10 months. Even if I don't fill it all the way and we use ti 4 times a weekend (28 gallon usage and 4 times a weekend) = 7 months....
The smell issue is definitely something to think about. I think those tank come with those small caps plus I can use the blue tabs... How well to these work?

Another question - if I make a 3" p trap for this pint toilet - will it not work well?

I have a Dometic 1 pint flush toilet hooked into a Sunmar Centrex 2000 composter unit. I completed the unit last year and have been using it this year with great results so far. It is a non-electric unit that has a 4 inch vent pipe. It takes a bit of maintenance work to keep it going - adding the bulking agent and the bio stuff on a regular basis and rotating the drum every few days. No smells so far and it works well. I have not emptied the unit yet and probably will not have to until the end of the season. I would recommend this type of unit.
