I have only been on the forum for the last few weeks and have missed seeing this while you were on vacation.

OMG I love your story about this place and have enjoyed reading about what a wonderful man you are!

This place is absolutely beautiful! I have enjoyed the pictures as well. Yes! please post more as you go along.

It's going to be a good day knowing that their are still some people that care.

After having a break, its always hard getting back into a build for some reason or the other.

It truly is, Bevis! Part of it is that I'm having to split my time between two projects right now. They are so totally different in nature that its hard to switch gears. Besides this cabin, I'm refinishing an 8.5'X4.5'x3" red oak island top while the customer is in Europe. It has to be finished before they get back! The maker of the top went crazy with the distress marks! Trying to soften them, and sand the entire surface inside the house, without using power tools, is very time consuming! So, I build during the day, and sand into the night.

We did make some progress this week despite dental appointments, rain, and other complications. The roof is all screwed down. The windows are in. And we started the trim. I forgot to take the camera to work; so I'll post up pics next time.

Welcome to the forum, Sandy. Thank you for the compliment.

Its been awhile since I posted here because I've been running my rear off! However, I finally finished my part of this...the structure is complete and weather tight for the winter. They are working on the inside.

Here is what her new home looks like.

I hope she enjoys living in it as much as I enjoyed giving it to her. Thank you to everyone who offered their kind comments during this build.

The final tally for all materials was just over $9000. FYI, had I charged for my labor, the cost would have been around $16K.

Leonk, I will accept the "looking good" compliment. Thank you.

As for the generosity, well, I get a lot of satisfaction from giving. That "feel good" feeling is more valuable than money! I can always make more money! Doing something for someone, with no thought of monetary gain, is priceless. I highly recommend it.

They are sheet rocking the exterior wall before building the interior ones. Currently, its open.

The plan calls for an L-shaped kitchen beginning 3' from the front door. The sink will be under the odd sized window North of the porch, and the sitting area takes up the rest of that 12'X16 space on the South end. That access opening, below and to the right of the kitchen window, is to maintain or replace the 12gal water heater, to be located under the counter corner. The bath/laundry will project off the East wall about 12' and is 6.5' wide. That creates a short hallway, 42" wide between the west wall and the laundry. There is a window centered on the laundry. A 36" pocket door will be installed to close off the bedroom.. At the back door, up against the West wall, will be a 22" deep, 6' closet. with storage above. There is also shelf space in the bedroom side of the bathroom where the sit-down shower will take up 48" of the dividing wall between the bath and laundry. All the plumbing will be in the kitchen/bath wall. The bed area is 11'X12'. I'll get you pictures when its finished.

Sorry I missed this post. It looks good Tom. I'm still working on my last job of the year. Cold and snow and my mechanics job have kept me from getting it done. I only have the porch roofs to build , but it's 14 below and it keeps snowing.

Thanks, Owen.

I'm in Wisconsin right now myself, and it is damned cold! When I get back to Kansas, after he first of the year, I'll be starting some indoor projects. After being in this cold, Kansas will feel like Florida!

This is exactly the size my wife and I are going to start building in spring of 2014. Where are you located? I'm trying to figure if prices for materials are higher where you're at.

Thank you.

Lisa, I didn't mean to ignore your Christmas wishes. With all that's going on in my world, I've had to tie a string to my mind to keep from losing it!

Hope your Christmas was great, and your New Year exciting.
