I just came across this site the other day and I'm impressed with all the great looking cabins. I am planing to construct a small cabin next to a 5 acre pond we had put in last summer and I have a ton of questions. I would appreciate any advice all of you could give me.
I plan on building a 10 x 16 lean to type cabin with a loft. I hope to use recycled lumber for most of the framing and plan to insulate it with rigid foam board. I want to put a metal roof on it and hope to some day add a porch off the front and have the ability to add on to the sides. I will have no water or electric(maybe solar some day but I doubt it).
My main concerns are....
1. Will I be able to move it to another site in the future or will it be to big?
2. How do I build a stable foundation?
3. I want to put in a wood stove like the one in the picture below but I have no idea how much clearance is needed also will it heat the entire cabin?
4. I also was wondering what you think is the minimum head room needed in a loft? I will use it as a bedroom and a storage area and was planing on having the shallow side open so I can look down on the kitchen area(the back wall of the cabin).
5. What pitch should the roof be and how tall should i build it to have a loft big enough for a twin air mattress and room to move around(I don't need to stand up but don't want to feel like i am sleeping in a box).
I know I have a lot of questions but Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated.

Your building should fit on the back of a rollback tow truck, if you can get the truck to the building
Back in the day they just piled up creek rocks and built on top of that, the method of choice this days seems to pre-cast pier blocks from the lumber store. I will be using a gravel bed under the pier blocks to help prevent problems related to ground freeze
Gambrel roof trusses will give you the most headroom in the loft area. There are plans for them all over the internet. I think 5 feet would be adequate headroom assuming a 12" thick air mattress

If you want to move on highways...you have height limits...on your land no problem
I put my cabin 12x20 on poured piers...with built up beams. It "could" be moved by lifting under the beams...but I do not see that in the future.
our loft has about 3 1/2 feet of clearance on the "head" end
