We have had a good winter so far. We had about two weeks of very cold temps and had a lot of snow early on. The snow is about gone and we have had great days in the 30's, 40's and some 50'. I can't cpmplain. Here is a few pictures of today. The one picture if you look close you can see the cabin. The creek was running pretty good today.

better every day .But still indoors mostly do to the ice covering almost everything. I do get out for coffee most days ,I have been driving my truck for a week or so.

Utah has or was supper cold for about 2 moths, now being January its been around 35 to 40, where i have my cabin is much colder, but im sick of the winter for sure cause its hard to get up to the cabin, its totally of the grid, cant wait for spring and summer

Yep winter does get old but I do enjoy the season. Hard to plan anything blizzard one day, nice the next day. Most years if I want to get to the shack I have to snow shoe in but I have been able to drive in all winter this year. Most years it looks like this with 3 foot plus drifts on the road.

this winter is just ridiculous. Schools all across the state are closed for the 4th day this winter tomorrow. There is a steady 25mph wind gusting to almost 50, 6 foot deep snow drifts everywhere, and the high temp tomorrow is supposed to hit -15.
Summer seems like such an impossibility at this point. Sigh!

Just had BBQ at Soul Mans near Dallas in 73F temps. Amazing that in a day of driving we went from -14 with the windchill to 73F.

The traveler sees it all, while we are still frozen and headed for 20 below by morning and thirty mile an hour winds. My diesel is staying home for a few days. We sure have had bad fuel here this year.

just got a call from my utility company... suppose to keep thermostats set at 60 and use no other natural gas due to pipeline explosion in Manitoba.
I can hear the wind howling outside and schools are cancelled here too for tomorrow. The 6" of snow we got this morning was beautiful but..........I'm going to keep my tongue off the flag pole too!

It's tough here, just under 70 yesterday. With my cold just about gone I have been out on my road bike almost every day. It takes a while to get the miles back up after being sick. I like to average well over 100 per week, I did 90 this weekend. I have a 75 mile ride on Friday with a 40% chance of rain, lovely.
No snow in the mountains so no XC skiing so far this year.

That's why I firmly believe in two independent heating sources! I want to decide if I'm going to be cold in my house...not the gas company.

My daughter's backyard in Charlotte, NC. Supposed to get a few inches tonight. City is shutting down. Notice the tv reflection in the top corner. "STORM WARNING".
Yikes, man! This is North Carolina. It's not supposed to do this here, is it?

And we are having a propane shortage in Ontario - although nobody can explain why! I've been flipping between the wood stove to the furnace to conserve propane. This morning it was -30C (-34F) - and that was without considering the windchill.
Our son's birthday party was Saturday and we always do them outside. All week we watched the weather report and there was going to be spike on Saturday - didn't account for the 50km/hr wind gusts. Our driveway is about 750 metres long and pretty well drifted in. We walked down to the end of the driveway to meet the kids as their parents dropped them off. Two of our neighbors brought over their two horse sleighs and we spent 1 1/2 hours going through wooded trails out of the wind with kids yelling, falling off, chasing down the sleighs etc. Brought the kids in for hot chocolate and then back out to finish up with a scavenger hunt then hiked back down to the road for pick-up. Sometimes I'm in awe on how we all make the best of winter!

It's 18 degrees F in NE TN; low tonight 7 degrees. It's snowing. My husband moved us into town several years ago into one of the better areas (lots of MD/Lawyers) and even our are in ice and snow covered. I have had fire in fireplace most nights. My heatpump can't keep up with cold. About to run out of kindling!

A few years ago I was in South TX and saw snow on palm trees. I've seen snow in Charlotte NC too.

Heat wave today with a high of 25 F.
Low tonight supposed to be 8 F. *sigh*
A big snow storm is on the horizon for early next week but at least it will warm things up if you can believe that.

it hasn't been all that bad, -30 farenheight, 3 feet of snow with heavy caked down ice when we had a brief warm day. I been out cutting wood as often as I can, used 4 face cords to heat my place so far this winter. I got people rushing over with handfuls of money begging me to sell them wood so I been out cutting dead elm as fast as I can. when not doing that I'm sitting in my skivvies in 100 degree temperatures in the cabin and binging on homemade donuts while watching science fiction movies. been a good winter so far

This cold snap is a real eye opener. Propane and natural gas shortages in US. It's scary how easily you may be affected very quickly without warning. Gasoline, home heating oil and wood supplies can be affected just as quickly for various reasons for the majority of the population. .
