I'm looking at the same kit. My friend who's been off grid for 20 years says it has good specs and has the same (but older) controller in his barn and it works well.

does a system like this need to be grounded? Do you need to use fuses anywhere? I just bought the 100 watt kit from renogy, but upgraded to the mppt controller. I have many questions...

I didn't see anything about grounding in the diagram. Fuses never hurt. I'm splitting the building into 6 circuits with fuses. I think I'll put a shut off from the battery to the building.

I'll go out on a limb here...
Grounding doesn't do much for DC circuits except provide some safety for lightning events, potentially saving the electronics or preventing a fire. A direct lightning strike could toast everything despite. Ground rods and wire are cheap insurance/risk management, and are part of electrical code (for those concerned with such matters).
