Hi,
My name is Maggie and this is my first post 
Myself and my husband Jim live in Northern Ontario. We recently purchased a lot on St Joseph's Island and are looking to build a small cabin. We are hoping that it will be as self-sufficient as possible.
This is just a heads-up that we will be pestering the good people here with a lot of questions! Thanx in advance!

Welcome to the forum Maggie. Are you on the water? Beautiful area up there. It is amusing when you look at the map that we call that Northern Ontario but you are right on the border to the US. My parents used to live in Owen Sound and I used to travel up your way on occasion.

The folks on this site are just super. They have answered so many questions as we fumbled about with our base camp build and as a result the finished product is amazing!
Enjoy the process it is so much fun to figure out how to make things work. Our place is completely off of the grid, yet we now have running filtered water, lights that turn on, and a fridge and a stove......it is pretty cool!
