Has anyone found a small-capacity on-demand water heater than can be installed indoors? I have an Eccotemp L5 outdoor unit but cannot find a similar indoor unit anywhere. My preference is installation indoors to avoid freezing pipes.
An alternative would be a small propane tank heater. I had one of these ~30 years ago (looked like a half-size tank) but cannot find one of them either. (there are some that are electric, but I'm off-grid so propane is the only option)

They are made by Bosch, a quality unit but pricey. Uses standard 4" vent you buy at local hardware store to vent to outside. Made for off-grid, non electric....propane fired, small propane tank required.

Greg, if a small water heater is what you're looking for what about a propane unit out of an wrecked rv? They are usually about 5 gallons and would be fairly fast at heating.

I would be cautious about a used RV water heater only because many folks ignore the maintenance required. They forget to change the anode rod and the tanks rust out if they are glass lined steel like Suburban. Atwood makes aluminum tanks and those last better.
RV water heaters are not all that efficient unfortunately. However they can be a compromise. 6 and 10 gallon models. There are some vendors online with okay pricing.
We use a 6 gallon Suburban model. Be aware that the ones with electronic ignition require 12 VDC power.

Eccotemp also makes indoor vented units. I have the L5 so cannot speak to the quality of their vented line of heaters. Looks like the Eccotemp FVI12-LP is on sale at the moment. Eccotemp FVI12-lp

I've got the indoor Eccotemp. But I haven't installed it yet as I prefer showering under a black plastic bag. The only downside of the Fv12 is it uses room air and vents outside.
The Marey indoor vented units look good too. Check 'em out on Amazon.
I was going to get a Marey as it used outdoor air and then vents to the outdoors. But I couldn't find any reviews. Of course now Amazon has a lot of reviews and it looks pretty good.
