Here is our story.

My wife and I moved back up to Minnesota after living in TX for eight years. We moved back soley to be closer to family in hopes to start a family of our own one day. Well as our first year evolved my grandmother passed away and left us a small inheritance. Being in our early 30's we didn't want to squander the money so the search began for a lake lot in northern Minnesota. By May we had agreed on a 1.16 acre lot with a 151 ft of lake shore. The lake is an 800 acre lake with good fishing that is about 3.5 hours from home.

Two days before we closed on the lot Bri revealed to me that we were expecting a lil one.

So over the next 6 months we busted our behinds and backs cleared a building site, put in a culvert, a gravel drive way, bought a 1979 StarCraft camper off of CL for 1000$, (side note it is brand new from orgianl owner who said the last time he set it up was 1983, the year Bri was born) cleaned up the lake shore for a dock and put In a dock. I also put in a gate across the drive.

By fall we hired a guy to build us a 10x14 "shed".

We also made time to do a lil fishing and duck hunting while we were there.

I'll post more in a minute to where we are today.
See pictures.

Some pictures from last weekend.

Cleaned up a view and trail to the lake.

Cut only dead fall trees or blown over trees.
Bri and I want to keep it full and as natural as possible.

We also made some benches

Welcome to the site. Your property and "shed" look great. We have a place on the Iron Range....north of Hibbing. We love it up there, but don't get back nearly often enough. Heck it will be almost 6 months since the last visit when we get back for Memorial Day week. Tough being 800+ miles away. I really envy your 3.5 hour drive to your cabin.

Congrats on the little one too.

What a great setting. Congratulations on your lake lot and your new family addition. What fun he is going to have growing up at the lake.

Concrats on the new family member. I see you have pelicans, there must be fish. One thing though....your dog needs a softer bed.

Looks great, have you thought about cutting the poles down on your dock - to 10" or thereabouts?

Solo trip two weeks ago; finished stairs to the lake. Myself and buddies are no perfectionists on this project but they serve their purpose

Calvin keeping watch as I work:

Enjoyed a great sunrise with the dog:

Heading up on Thursday with the wife to split wood, pull a few stumps out and caulk and stain the bunk house.

Hey great pics! I like your place a lot. That stairway looks like quite a project...
Nice to see Upper Red still kicking out nice crappies! I will never forget the winter of '99. Never will I ever see fishing like that again.. 10 of us went up one night(right about the time the crappie school was discovered). We caught over 300 crappies, the smallest being 14" majority were 15", one 17". Three of us in my house had 5 fish on at the same time!
Ahh memories of good old Red Lake..

Wife and I left our 14 month at home for a night and headed north to get some work done.

Ended up clearing 6 tress for a future building site and saved our stairs from a big pine which was over the top of them.

Split a lot of wood too. Still needs to be stacked.
Wife and I did go out to eat one night and had a nice fire before coming home

Wow. Northern MN looks at lot like NB in Canada. We usually lose the ice around mid April to first of May. Calvin looks a lot like our Arlo. Place looks great -so do the refreshments. OK, gotta watch the Masters.

Was sitting around playing cards on Saturday night with my parents after putting the lil guy down.
Wife mentioned how she wanted the bunk house insulated and walls put up before we take the lil guy up for his comfort.

I get a wild idea and say I'll go tomorrow and get it done. Mother says I'll join you. 10 am I leave with 63 year old mom. 3.5 hour drive. Calling for a low of 27

3.5 hour drive and 4 hours of work we are done at 715pm

Finished cutting up one big pine which fell 2 weeks prior only to see one more tried to take out the new stairs.

Will cut that one next trip

It was her 2nd time up to the lake. First time to spend the night.

She had a great time and said she wanted to come back to help with "work" again.

Got the lot cleaned up, dock in and firewood stacked in one large pile. Very excited for memorial day weekend

This will be Grayson's first trip up with us since he was 3 months old.
