Thanks, creeky, for the link and the post. Cool idea you got there, for your panels.

So, you now have 1.5 Kw of panels, at 48vdc? 4 on the roof mount and 2 on the ground?

I reckon you are producing more power than you will need for a while to come, at your place.

I appreciate your posts and your thread on building your place, as well as the humor in all.

Thanks, mate.

The two on the ground have 2 more to come. Will be running them at 96v. Ya. In the summer I get to use a dishwasher heating the water with electricity. But October thru the end of December I see many days under heavy cloud. No tv, just a fridge and lights. That's when those panels pay off.

I'm excited to build a tracker for them. Starting now that the birds have fledged and I can get into the fields.

Thanks everyone! Great info sharing here. I was on vacation for two weeks and found some time to do my own calculations and research. I'm mentally more comfortable to tackle this now that the first building on my property is almost complete and ready for power.

Im New to this site though ive been offgrid for just over 2 years.
I started with 2 x 45(about $200 each) watt harbor freight systems and 4 6 volt sams club golf cart batteries(just over $100 each with core charge) for 12 volt @ 400ah of battery.untill this weekend i had 3 x 45 watt hf. kits and 8 x 6 volt sams batteries for 12v @ 800ah.i was a diehard 12v believer for the avaiability of gadgets for 12v but decided to upgrade to a real system and just took delivery of 2 x 230 watt 24 volt pannels(about $250 each) from missouri wind and solar(had problems with ups but chrystal at mws helped alot),a 440 amp wind/solar controler(about $170) and a 1500 watt puresine inverter(about $500).behold i now have refrigeration and evep cooler without firing up the gen.as for what its running, so far a 3 cu.ft refrigerator,115 watt portable evap cooler,12v cfl lighting (tapped batteries for 12v -24 to 12 volt reducer on its way)car stereo & serious radio, galaxy tab, cell phone etc.my sugestion about washer/dryer is to run a gen for that and coordinate that with topping off battery bank, check out air drying (if you size your system to accomidate the washer/dryer youll be oversized and spend alot more money-the very large inverters (esp.over 2000 watt) arent as efficient at partial load either.as it sits only major things this place needs is well and expand the new solar system to accomidate that.
