I am running a hose (or possibly poly pipe) from my brook to my water tank using a Shurflo submersible pump powered by a PV panel. It will have to travel 1200 feet with a rise of about 30 feet. My off-grid guru tells me a 1/2" garden hose will do fine, but recently two other knowledgeable individuals independently said 1/2" is way too small an opening. One of them said to go with at least a 3/4" hose, and the other was talking about 1" or 1-1/2" poly pipe. I know the issue is flow and pressure, but I'm not sure whom to believe.

Any advice?

thanks,
Paul

1'2" pipe water per 100 ft =1.6 gallon
3/4" '" " " = 2.8 "
1" " " " = 4.5 "

will this small pump push & lift that weight??

The Shurflo 9325 spec sheet says that at 24 VDC it will handle a maximum of 230 feet of vertical lift with a flow rate per hour of 82 gallons.

Spillenger, most homes are supplied with 1" poly pipe. I doubt you'd need bigger than that. The size of the hose will determine how heavy the water column is going to be, which will determine the power of your pump.

Shurflo 9325 spec sheet says that at 24 VDC,
has a 1/2" Barbed fitting for 1/2 " pipe only---read the data sheet--I have the same pump---
