I bought a 28ft box trailer... I bought a 20x30 tarp that I will use to cover the top of this trailer with. This is what I bought (only mine is 28ft = much shorte)
trailer

I tried to look up online on what kind of knots/ties to use but I am not sure... I want to use the holes in the tarp and then run the rope under the trailer and connect it so the tarp "hugs" the trailer.

Any thoughts on what will be the easiest and most efficeint way to do this? it will sit like this for at least a year or so..

At the grommet in the tarp you can use 2 half hitches. At the other end of the line use taughtline hitch which permits tightening the line w/o retying.

Linky here

Those are the last two knots illustrated.

Another handy Knot Site They have animations and an App!!

Watch the areas where the tarp folds over a sharp corner, like the upper trailer corners. Cardboard folded over the corner and held with tape can help prevent abrasion through the tarp. Any movement of the tarp is a wear point.

Great advice Don. Columbia Sportswear also has an app for knot tying as described above. It's called "what knot" I keep it handy on my iPad when I'm tying different knots at my cabin.
