We used the same type of foundation on our 20 x 25ft cottage and no worries so far (3 yrs) so hopefully you will be OK. We also are water access only and it is difficult to do everything without equipment.

Thanks. I've been leaning toward the blocks-on-patio-slabs solution too.

I am intrigued by your project CaptCanuck. I'm a new member so just getting into the forum. We have a boat in cabin in Ontario. It's an old place that I have been restoring for the past 20 years. We are off the grid and a 40 km boat ride from our vehicle so I know what it is like having to haul material.

I am planning to build a small out building for my wife. She paints and fiddles and our main cabin is comfortable but fairly small. We also need some extra sleeping space for when our 2 grandson's visit so am trying to come up with a design that will be small, nice, give my wife some space and also an extra sleeping space for two adults or two kids. I see some really nice ideas in your pictures.

I like the upper level which I assume is a sleeping loft. Can you tell me the inside dimensions of that space? What was the wall height of your 8 x 12 building? What do you plan to have for a ladder or stairs?

I just finished building an 8 x 10 wash house for a composting toilet, shower, sink and propane freezer so know how long it can take to build a small space.

Very nice. I'll look forward to seeing finished pictures.

Just a comment on boat access. I love the fact that we do not have a road, driveway and vehicles in sight. It greatly adds to the tranquility.

Cheers,
TranquilMan

Just checked out your build. Looks good. Also looks like a perfect site for a cabin.
