Nice cabin Rowjr. A little more spacious than my own lol.
I'm happy to report my auto changing propane regulator has already come in handy. My "service" tank went dry sometime through the evening last night but my heat stayed on and I woke up nice and toasty!

It's only Wednesday and I'm already pining for the woods and camp. This week has been mentally draining, especially listening to everyone share their political opinion, that wasn't asked for. (My fellow Canadian's will know what I'm talking about).
I'm ready to enjoy a strong coffee, a book, and bowl of tobacco by the brook. The squirrels will share their unsolicited opinions with me, but I have much more patients for them.

Isn't it nice just to enjoy the the woods. My cabin is not insulated so at night you can hear the hoot owls just like you were sleeping under the stars.

Very Very Nice! Love the pics and thanks for them.
I too plan on using a 12V battery to run a couple of LED lights. Will probably go with a direct vent gas heater though.

Thanks...I notice you ran your stove pipe out the side which is something deciding on and was also interested in your roof design or insulating it. Did you vent it to a ridge vent so it would sweat or would it be consider a hot roof. I'm being told that I'm going to have to vent mine so it will not be a hot roof but I have ran my plywood roofing up all the way to the ridge beams which are double up.Well its something I'm looking into but I do like your set up smaller or not.

It would be considered a "hot roof" set up. I always leave both windows open a crack when the place isn't in use to provide some ventilation.

Rowjr, I'm very happy with the stove pipe in it's current location. It's much easier to seal from leaks than if it was through the roof, and much easier to repair a hole in the wall should I change my heating method in the future. Since my heat is propane and not wood fire, having a straight pipe for good draft isn't nearly as important.
Bloodylizard, thank you! I was hoping that my pictures and posts may inspire someone who started out as intimidated as I did. This was my first serious effort in construction/building, I'm more of a mechanical guy. I just did LOTS of research and planning and most importantly took my time. If something didn't suit me on the first attempt it was torn apart and I tried again.

Have been able to spend some time at the camp these last few weeks. It's been mild, and great weather for it.
Had the chance to put up my holiday decorations. The shotgun shell lights are staying up all year though!
Unfortunately project franken pooper has been suspended until spring. I've got er all bundled up and ready the winter. I used the older weathered tarps used during the camps construction for the sides and bought a new tarp for the roof.
Had the opportunity to visit a friends cabin recently as well. It has a rough sun porch area with wood stove. It provides a lot of extra space and a nice year round spot to be sheltered but enjoy the scenery. It's got me thinking..
Wouldn't be hard for me to add a sun room. Extend the skids, buy a few more trusses and frame an extension on the front of my existing structure. Add some boards, batons, a screen door, some storm windows and a few more sheets of roofing. Maybe add a small cook stove at the end. It would be an easy 40 or 60 (still deciding) square feet of usable space. The wheels are turning, but there will need to be some serious nickle saving! (I'll also have to finish the outhouse first)

love the Christmas lights. an addition for a sun porch....how great would that be?!! sounds like me when I would mention to hub just a bump out......lol he still gets nervous when I begin a sentence with 'you know what would be so cool?.....'

I know what you mean. I think that the missus must get tired of conversing with me at the camp. I start every second sentence with "you know what I could do?..."
I really do sometimes just sit and observe, thinking of how I could tweak or modify something to improve it. Truth be told, it's becoming one of my favorite hobbies. It's relatively affordable if you keep it simple and do it yourself. I learn a lot from the experience and when I'm finished a project I have something for my time and cash that I'll be able to enjoy for years to come.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Unfortunately with the business of the holidays we were too pooped to visit the camp.
However we've decided to ring in the new year there. We will be heading up this evening. Plan is to cook up a feed in the Can Cooker Jr that Santa brought me, spend the evening with books and board games, then maybe make some noise at midnight with a boomstick or 2.
Hope everyone enjoys their evening, and gets even more enjoyment from their cabins in 2016!

Hey 1300. Hope your winter is going well. Just a quick question. Where did you get the hardware that you used for your table leg and the bracket system for lowering and raising it from bed to table position? I've got my benches built and upholstered, table ready to go also. Just need the hardware to create the "convertible dinette" effect. Rv supply store? Thanks!

Hey GG,
Winter is tiresome lol. It's only snowed 3 times and at the moment I already have to snow shoe to get to my cabin.
The hardware for my bunk/booth came from a truck camper that I already had. However it has limited height for leg room, and is a bit flimsy. I've never been happy with it and plan to change it. I can try my best to share what I have planned.
The rear: This is where the table butts against the wall. I plan to figure out just how high I want my table. I will mount a 2x4 ledge at that height that the table can sit on. Then at each side,of the wall facing end, of the table I'll have a hole drilled into the top of the table. On the wall I will vertically mount 2 bolt latches. So when the table is slid into the proper place, between the bolt latches and 2x4 ledge, the bolt latches will lock down and fit into the holes in the table top. That will lock the table from coming away from the wall or lifting up at the rear.
The front: This is the side you enter the booth. On the floor I will mount a wooden block, with a 2" hole in the middle. Under the table I will cut and mount a "U" shape piece of wood with the channel being 2" across. A piece of 2" ABS pipe will form a table leg. The bottom of the leg sticks into the block of wood mounted on the floor. The top of the leg will slide into the "U" on the bottom of the table when you slide the rear into place on it's ledge.
For the bed portion I have a ledge near the top of the seats, and on the wall. The bolts get unlocked, table slid outwards, and the leg can be removed (and stored under the bed for the evening). The table then just sits on the ledge, keeping it flush with the seats. It'll be a bit of a pain to make the bed, but it's an affordable way to have everything work with my heights exactly as I want them. I have the parts, just haven't done the job yet lol.

That's a great plan you have in mind for converting it. I've been toying with many ideas and remembered that you had a similar set up so thought i would ask. Your idea of the bolt latches is a good one too. I hope to have the benches and table installed this weekend. Will post pics once I do decide on a system and get it installed.

Well this update is overdue!
Was able to spend a wonderful New Years Eve with the miss at the 10x10. We cooked a lovely meal with the new Can Cooker I got for Christmas and just relaxed. At midnight we played with sparklers and boomsticks outside.
I love my can cooker. One dirty pot to make all this delicious food!
Between new years and the current date it's only snowed twice, and there is already enough accumulation that the camp is now only accessible by snowshoe. Not pleased.
That being said there will be very little accomplished at the 10x10 for a while. Plan is to save some coin and start back on the outhouse in spring. It's becoming inconvenient to not have one. Driving someone back to the house to have a No.2 at 2am is no fun. So the outhouse completion seems like the most practical next project.

I followed your idea of the barrel bolts to attach the table and got it done yesterday. Still have to seal it in with old pallet wood but check out my post for pics. Thanks for the barrel bolt idea!

Thanks! We were lucky enough that the storm is missing us this time! Great news considering there's still a pile of snow left from last time. It's supposed to warm up this week, so hopefully some of it will melt and I'll have room to shove the next dumping when I plow lol.

Time for a small update.
Haven't spent any nights at the "camp" for a while. It's been a combination of poor weather and a long "to do" list at home. I have, however, quickly visited many times. The place has become a hub for my outdoor life. A place to have a seat or quick coffee between tasks. Sometimes I will just walk in to get some activity and look at things, planning future projects or modifications. On that note, I've also been collecting items for some upcoming projects.
I've decided to go with a wood fire heating system. The propane works well, however there is something I find very cozy and comforting about a wood stove that the propane unit just can't offer me. This is a rare occasion where I'm choosing ambiance and atmosphere over practicality.
I've picked up a small wood stove meant for in an outfitter tent. It has a cooking surface, warming tray and hot water tank. All of which will be very handy. I'm now collecting bits and pieces to complete the install. I'll certainly update the post with more in depth detail as things progress. I'm hoping to have the install finished by March 17th (My birthday). I've went insanely over my original budget, but when I'm finished I should have a reliable system that will last.

your cabin looks great! you might find that a single deep cycle AGM battery would be perfect for lighting, charging cell phones, small radio, etc. if you do get one, make sure to get LED lights, wire in a little 12v plug (cig lighter type) then you can use a car charger for your phone, small fan, etc. when your visit is over, take the battery home and recharge it (oops, i posted this before reading the whole thread) i got some great led lights at lowes in the section where they sell outdoor patio lights, solar lights. 12v, 7.5 watt warm white, work great
