Just joined this tidy community; I am a brand new cabin day dreamer and long time outdoor, nature lover. You people have some wealth of information here.

Don't see much representation from Oregon though, may be they are in stealth mode

Gary I think our lots are less than 10 miles away as the crow flies. I'm due west of the little sand creek store. Abnormal 2 years in a row with no snow in March. Great time for forest cleanup, no bugs and enjoyable workings temps.

Heh, we had you further north for some reason.
Yeah, gonna be another bone dry summer.
Sure like the no skeeters situation though.

I have 10 acres about 30 miles north of Beatty, smack-dab in the middle of no where!! Have FINALLY decided on a builder for the cabin, Oregon Timberwerks, I think one of the other ladies on this site mentioned them.

Moregon are you near the Sycan? I've always wanted to fish it, but it's a ways out there.

Thanks folks; good to see some participation. I see most of you are in Southern Oregon; any particular reason choosing SOR vs other parts of the state.

SOR has relatively cheap land...compared to the rest of the state. It's sunny and dry, cold though. If you have water, you are in good shape though.

I'd say you can find 5 acres here for 15k. It would be bare ground. I found 20 acres a few years back with a spring for 12k. But it was rugged. In summary, there's cheap but you have to shop a lot to find quality. Lots of dirt and sage brush to sort thru

As Badger sez, not so spendy...aaaand sunnier.

Are you in the Well-I'm-Wet valley?

that explains; given what SOR is and the constant drought no wonder land is cheap.

There's tradeoffs for sure.
I love the doug firs of the left side of the Cascades.
But that mud, that constant mud, man I've fought and slogged thru it most my life.

Yeah there's plenty of dry spots in southern Oregon, but there's also some mighty mighty fine spots, with plenty of elbow room, and high water tables.

I do hear ya.
I love the coastal range.
Unmatched greenery. Yessir.
And there's still tucked away places.
Places outta Vernonia, Mist, Jewel.
But the prices for those parcels have long been Californicated. And authorities are nosier.

I'd rather deal with renegades than authorities.
Guess that's a tradeoff too.

I bought because it was cheap and relatively close to Calif, where I'm from. Unfortunately every one and their granny came to Calif so I can no longer afford to live here, much less retire here.

So....i bought some acreage, will drill for water and set up a cabin there. Its really beautiful and I can hardly wait!!!

"I found 20 acres a few years back with a spring for 12k."

I posted this in 2015. I think I looked at the above referenced parcel in 2010. Funny that the parcel Im in escrow on is just down the hill and the creek is fed by the same spring. I hadn't intentionally been looking up there but knew right from the brief description it was in the same area. I guess it was meant to be. The elevation is 4800 feet and it's nearest town is Sprague River. I tried to drive in today but there was 18 inches of powder and I nearly got stuck. So, we hiked about in the forest on the approach road. There's some great trees in the usfs land that it borders.
