Now that I have my solar setup figured out I am now looking for a more removed piece of property to move too as I will never again be without power.
A pretty liberating little thing being able to easily make your own power, the only thing the new property must have is good water, no freeways or highways within at least 10 or more miles, no f--king homeowners association and no developments around me now or in the future within a couple of miles.
Living will be in a travel trailer with a couple of slide outs which makes any regulation a lot tougher than a cabin.
The search is on.

groingo, trailers need a cover for the roof to shed snow, most RV's will collapse as deep snowfall turns to rain. If you build a cover, its taxed by county. Have you looked into "park model" cabins? No taxes. How about north central WA, plenty of sunlight, over 300 days per year, great for solar panels. A realator specializing in North Central Wa is http://www.dirt-cheap-dirt.com , no one around for miles. Be ready to rack on lots of miles, nothing is a short drive.

Northern Idaho here. Not nearly as good for PV as Southern Idaho.

interesting that they spec "latitude tilt." so with a compensation for the lower sun angle you should actually get a bit better solar gain.
cool idea groingo. thinking along much the same lines myself. think it has something to do with february this year?

Just a quick aside I can't help but draw a correlation between the dark brown areas on that map and the number of license plates I see in FL from these states.
Would love to see how brown ON and QC are on a map, too!

Also notice how nice the northern part of NM is (where I am)... If you really want easy solar move to the SW mountains.

According to that map it doesn't get any worse for solar than where I am yet it is working very well and next winter will be better yet.
Just very liberating to know I can take it with me and be up and running most anywhere in minutes and not have to pay anyone for it!
