Hello good people
I am planning my cabin and thinking about alternative ways to make the floor (I mean instead of wood, which looks like a lot of work compare to walls). For example earth floor, concrete, stone , ....
Have anyone tried something different? What is your experience?

If you can do a concrete slab foundation you can kill two birds with one stone; a great foundation and floor. The concrete can be dyed after the floor and cabin are done.

a concrete slab is cheap and easy and you can finish it in a lot of ways but i had one before and found it to be cold and damp even with a vapor barrier also hard on the feet

I hate cold feet.
Why I'd prefer an insulated floor, why I'd go with wood.
But that's because I live in an area where I will have snow on the ground in 3 out of 4 seasons.
Your environment may be different, where you could pick and choose...
I'd go with wood anyways, call me old fashioned.

A proper concrete slab has foam insulation under it.
Here is a document with info on Shallow Frost Protected Foundations. Page 10 has design detail for unheated buildings, which is what we would use for a cabin that was not heated full time in winter.

Thank you guys, very useful information. I hate cold feet too, but it seems like with proper insulation and covered with carpet it won't be cold.
