Today's the LAST DAY isn't it ? Little nervous, a bit anxious, hesitantly optimistic, excited and fighting the urge to run outside and jump up & down yelling as loud as you can "I'M FREE, FINALLY FREE !!!!"

Or something along those lines

I wanna here about your last day Gary... Cabingal already has the job jar loaded and the beer chillin, so everything is well organized.

Little nervous, a bit anxious, hesitantly optimistic

Y'know, that fleeting pang did enter and exit what's left of my mind....

But there's been distractions of late;
Early Wed morning I caught my forehead and eyebrows on the sticky side of clear packing tape that was stretched across the doorway to my office

Yesterday, when I left, I found my Jeep wrapped in shrink wrap (and several faces in the employee door window and behind the dumpster)

This morning my office looked like it was attacked by the ghost of Mr Whipple

Glad they love me

(More on the Our Tiny Cabin thread...eventually)

I wanna here about your last day Gary...

So, yesterday Engineering 'adjusted' the settings to my Email while I was gone to the post office.
When I typed 'I' it would default to 'The Gary'

I didn't notice this until after I'd sent out several Emails

So I sent 'em a frustrated Email;

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Gary O'

Alright you nimble minded pooptards, The Gary can't seem to send out an Email using the pronoun 'The Gary'...dammit...'The Gary'...crap

The Gary'm getting upset!!

(The Gary do love you guys...now FIX IT!!)

Nerdnic engineer types have a tenancy to get the giggles when they pull off a successful electronic ruse...I won't mention the time they set it up where whenever I Emailed them there would be audible clapping on their end.........

Ya know, Gar, when Bush left office all the Ws mysteriously disappeared from keyboards.
Just in case, today I'm buying stock in the letters G and O.

You can purge the data on server's BUT if the Networking guys are half decent and have a grand-parenting backup rotation going, they could recover it anyways. Depends on the org and who it has to comply with...

Now...
Step away from the desk and put your hands in the air.
Start chanting "I am FREE, I am FREE".
While chanting, RUN, don't walk to the nearest exist and DON'T LOOK BACK !

You have official gone from Corporate Serf to Free Peasant, Welcome to the club !

Naw, they aren't risqué or obscene. I just kept my depictions of certain employees from a bit of cut/paste....like hundreds of cut/paste pics.
However (as much as I'd like to) I choose not to display them throughout the universe, and really don't know why I'd want to keep them, with the exception that they...are...HILARIOUS!

Funny thing, tenure.
I pretty much raised the owners, therefore, me being 'the old man', I could do whatever whenever I wanted...ALLLLL the time.
But, danged if I didn't work like I owned the place.
Oh, here's a rather modest one of me;

Gotta luv the small humans. Sweet memories they give.
Donna Bills (McDonalds)
Sneeze salt (pepper)
Rememories (memories)
Jungle Bee (Bumble bee)
I've got a huge list...somewhere

Well, I just wanna drop a line or two and thank all you well-wishers for the sendoff.
And now the craziness begins.

Have fun and keep us posted on how you make out. We'll all be checking in on you (on this website that is - we won't actually be bombarding your cabin with thousands of visitors)

Hello Hattie! I'm in Vancouver, BC. You mentioned you were in a small town in BC. What are land prices like up in your area?

It depends on how much land you want to buy and if you want it to come with a well and septic and a house. Your best bet is to contact a real estate agent for the area you are looking for. There are many small towns in BC and the prices vary greatly.

Do your homework regarding well and septic. A real estate agent may not volunteer that information. Where we are, there must be a 100 ft separation between any septic and well (meaning you can't put in a septic within 100 ft of your well or anyone else's well). If you buy a property with an existing well and septic check to see if it is new or grandfathered. If it is an old, grandfathered system you need to make sure about the separation. If you don't have enough land and the cabin burns down, your land will be useless because you will not get a permit to rebuild. The 100 ft. separation is key!

Hi, Hattie. Thanks for replying. I didn't know if you would see that since it's sort of buried at the end of a thread. I read on another post of yours that you are in an un-incorporated town, which allows you to "bypass" certain regulations. Is that right? I don't mean that things are built unsafe or illegally, but I was wondering what the difference was for the average cabin builder. Do you still have to put in a septic system if you use a composting toilet, or can it be a much smaller system?

I was hoping for about 2-10 acres, just some land with a small road access and hopefully good water from a well. How far north are you, without having to get too specific?

rockies - Yes, we are in an unincorporated village, however we still fall under strict building regulations. When we first purchased here we tried asking about a composting toilet and were told no. We also could not put in a system to dispose of our grey water. We had to have a proper septic sytem or no permits would be issued. Surprisingly, the building inspectors usually send out a truck weekly that just drives around looking for violators. If they spot anything they will slap a big "stop work" order on the property.

Our well water here is EXCELLENT. We only have a shallow dug well (lined with concrete and with a concrete slab on top) and it has never run dry even during extreme dry spells. We have our water tested regularly and it is perfect.

We are in the Similkameen and are west of Princeton.
