Yesterday in my rush to get back to the cottage, I drove our truck down the little lane that leads to the cove that we must cross to get to our property. The little lane turned out be still half covered in snow. No problem for a 4x4, but one side of the lane was heated by the sun and very recent warm temps making this side extremely soft, muddy and mushy. Got stuck about a quarter of the way in and tried to back out. Heard a big blast of air as the soft side front tire blew. Tried for a couple hours to back up to firmer land to change the tire. The wheel was not turning so had to change it in the mud. Finally got it jacked up and the wheel lugs off only to find the tire wouldn't budge. After blow torching, strikes with wood for a couple hours, realized there was a rock jammed between the brake disk and the wheel drum that broke the inner wheel. Finally smacked the wheel off with a sledge and was able to get the spare on. We finally backed out in 4 low but both me and the truck were covered in mud. It was now getting dark so backed out and went back home. I have learned my lesson and will happily wait a few more weeks to get back. Great way to spend the first nice spring day.

Wow, rough adventure beachman. Sorry to hear about the trouble. Good news, you did rescue it and was able to drive it home and lick your wounds.

sympathies.

did something similar with a corolla camping in the back country once. ended up having to build a road stone by stone about 100 feet back to a high spot.

so it was make small stone road. back up three feet. pull up stones. lay them back down again. repeat.

at one point I looked down and thought. jeez. I don't remember having such hairy legs. it wasn't hair. it was mosquitoes.

we gave up on camping and headed for a bar.

Last spring I got stuck on my little one acre spot. Stepped right over the soft spot when I walked in. My Matrix was not so nimble. Local farmer pulled me out, backing his truck out of my narrow driveway all with a flatbed trailer on his back end. He didn't even blink.

Gotta love local farmers
