I came across these on a BOGO at Rite Aid over the winter and bought them on a whim as a test. Having an off-grid camp I've been disgusted with having to pay the price of "D" cells to put in my radio, flashlight, refrigerator box light, etc. Last year I remember having to pay $12-$15 for "D" cells because the radio went dead and wifey needs it on all the time for "entertainment" when she's working around. They went dead in very short order, much to my disgust.
Most of our other needs are "AA" size so I tried these "AA" to "D" adaptors hoping I could reach a compromise and not have mega-$$$ into batteries this year.
I bought a jumbo pack of "AA" cells to cover all of our needs and so far I'm happy with the results. I don't know how long the "AA's" will last vs. the "D" cells but overall, given the cost savings of bulk buying, I'm happy with the results.
I don't know how many of you use/need batteries, but I wanted to share this with all.

Well, it will be interesting to see what comes of this. According to this page a D cell contains about 8 times the milli amp-hours as a AA cell (using the data for alkalines) So check your prices on AA vs comparable quality D cells and do the math.

I recently got tires of buying D cells for the light in the Servel propane fridge. My route out of that was to buy an LED lamp (two for $4.59 on ebay) that fit the festoon style socket and wired the fridge to the 12 VDC electric system. We like the extra brightness we got out of the deal too.

The adapters and rechargeable AA batteries is what I ended up with. Was sick of different sizes. They may not last quite as long, but it is easy to reload and recharge. I have had the some AA for almost 9 years and they are just starting to die quicker than new ones.

I pulled solar cells from several solar lawn lights and wired them in series (with no batteries). There is enough power to run a small radio, possibly a large one as long as you have sun. I now have our porta-potty set up for music...

No worries about leaky batteries, either.

That is so cool! What a great idea AND way to go for recycling!
Soooo, you really "enjoy the go" with radio!

I have a "Wild Game" brand trail cam that I use at my cabin that just sucks the batteries and it takes C cells. I found these on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/8x-AA-to-C-Size-Battery-Converter-Adaptor-Adapter-Case-Cover- Box-/250842525510?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a67612f46'

The cam works so much better with lithium ion batteries and you can't find those in C cells but these let me buy AA and adapt them to fit. With C cells it would last about a month. With AA Lithium Ion they last 6-8 months, depending on the temperature.

Been very happy with this purchase. If those adapters hadn't worked I'd have chucked that camera in the garbage.

I use the Sanyo Eneloop version - C & D adapters. Very happy with the results so far.
