I noticed that I am so use to technology that occasionally I will (ahem, do my business ) at home and stand wondering why the toilet doesn't flush it's self. You can almost hear my wife yelling that very same thing. Then I remember I'm not at work where our toilets flush when you stand (or if you use the one on the right it flushes just as you sit, refreshing!

Butt I digress. Yesterday as I was at camp brushing my teeth looking at the windmills (wind turbines to the edjumukated few) I kept brushing till it gently buzzed to tell my "Davey, your time is up sweety " only to remember that I'm at camp and it's a good old manual tooth brush.

Man how we become use to tech. telling us to do stuff we don't have time for any more .

I'd continue but my fitness tracker (yes my wife bought it for me) just told me it's time for bed.

(yes my wife bought it for me)

after you hinted mightily no doubt.

This long weekend we kayaked and frolicked in the summer mists until just before supper when it got very quiet. ah the sight of many hands busy with laptops, tablets and phones checking messages.

too quiet. so I put on a music stream from the internet...

We have barely enough Cell phone coverage to make phone calls. You can also send TXT messages, but don't try to send one with a photo as it'll kill your battery trying to send it. So that cuts down on attempted usage at LOT. I'm reminded of my daughter on his first trip to the cabin, peering down at her iPhone "I have like 33 new notifications on various apps, and I can't check any of them!!!! It's driving me crazy". But after about 2-3 days, they just kinda give up and turn it off.

You can get a 1G data feed to sync, if you put your phone down in a table, and don't really touch it too much. But I only really bother with trying to do this, if I want to check on the weather.

I do miss the "connection" at times though, but not for things like Facebook, Movies, Music... more so for the resources that are available online; how-to guides, instructions, researching.

My largest tech-grief is not being able to access scf due to similar on again/off again cellular connectivity.
Being connected was a huge deal for me when I was working; now...not so much, with the above exception.

When I was building back in 2010 I broke my watch and never replaced it - best thing that ever happened to me! Cell phone are for slaves -never had one. It is amazing the peace and tranquility that come with getting rid of devices!

Yes, I am/was. I'm in front of screens all day for work and had an iPhone. One day I realized the tether the iPhone created and got rid of it. Best move. No more checking in on things that don't really matter and can wait. It is amazing what you'll start to see and notice again.

What does it matter if you know about a trending topic if you aren't present for the people in front of you.

At the cabin we have music, but there are no screens. Cell coverage is spotty. The kids never ask for TV time or iPad time. They just go and play...it is amazing to see them expand by actually exploring and inventing.

For the adults it is good to just hang out - no distractions.

As a kid my best memories aren't from technology (except for maybe zelda or mario, but played in groups). The best memories were time with grandparents in the garden or around the table playing a game or doing a craft.

Knowing how to use technology is a must and it great to create efficiencies. Having it replace time better spent is what to watch for.

I have a computer at home I use for my business and the resources available for projects and forums like this one. I find these way more enjoyable than the Cr:p they call TV these days.

I also have an iPhone again for business and the fact that I have six grandbabies and one on the way. If it wasn't for that the phone would never go in the cabin. I know I would never forgive myself if something happened to my wee ones or my kids and I couldn't be reached because I didn't want to be bothered. That's OK, I can live with that!

I totally agree that technology is useful and necessary for more than just emergencies...we have our phones at the cabin for emergencies or to call the marina for a part. And I wasn't saying no technology at all.

It just saddens me to see people of all ages now checking in so much with their phones/devices.

The use of technology is a matter of self discipline and priorities and manners or lack thereof. We have phones, take them to our cabin and elsewhere but mostly they sit there un-used. I don't feel the need to be available to the rest of the world 24/7. I like having the option of referencing something when we are away from home. We use the phone, tablet, or PC for our music, video playbacks, photo albums, books we read, etc. There's a TV on the wall when we want it. Nothing wrong with techno stuff as long as we don't let the devices run our lives.

... since getting a touch screen laptop I wish the TV had a touch screen....

There is so much in our lives that we do not have complete control over why let technology take over so much of our time?
