Anyone have any ideas about building some rustic cabin looking cabinets for your cabin? I've built regular cabinets with simple doors, (no rail and stile), but I'm having a hard time with how to build them for a cabin. Maybe as simple as using something other than cabinet grade plywood? I was thinking the doors could be 1 x 4 knotty pine boards tied together with a Z design but the cabinet box is escaping me.

Just old barnwood. Do a google search on rustic cabinets you will see some cool ideas

That is a neat look littlehouse.

i have old window frames and chicken wire with fabric and some doors have punched tin, which was fun to customize.

lots of ideas on Pinterest...pallet wood, barnwood, birch bark, old crates and all sorts of fun ideas.

Would love to see photos of your place, grover. Do you have any posted?

Grover, I had my cabinets custom built. And they made them look like they was made out of 100 year old barnwood. They actually put in dings and dents and with a small drill bit, made what looks just like worm holes. They did it just right, ie not overdoing it. They look fantastic. And you can stain them and make the stain lighter along edges to replicate wear from years of opening etc.

We used cedar fence boards trimmed with black hinges.

That does look like the view through the porthole. I have thought about using the cedar boards.

I made a vanity for my two washrooms that I wanted to be rustic. You could do a similar design for your lower cabinets. I used small logs to frame a box and then used rough pine for the sides and doors. I am quite pleased with the results. I will look for a picture and post it.
