I like checking out your pics. Very nice. We also decorate but not many people see but we like to have the Christmas feel and without the decorations it would not be the same.

thanks Copperhead. maybe some of you guys will like this. I mentioned hub restores vintage garden tractors for a hobby. he has at least a dozen he's finished, and this is the new 'child'. not quite done, as the hood is requiring a lot of work. but looking so good! it's a 67 John Deere 110 with round fenders and hydraulics. he loves this one. when I don't have him building, this is how he plays.

Happy New Year to everyone! the holidays are over, and now it feels a little more like winter. altho still mild for us, it's that nice time of year to just hunker in enjoying the warm fire in the wood stove. I have had this old sled for years. it was my hub's and then my kids got good use of it. it is warped and the runners rusted, which makes me love it all the more. decided to hang it, cause could never part with it. tossed up a bit of faux greenery (I love that when winter is bare!) and here you go.

and Gary O, we've only had a dusting of snow thus far. sure is different from last year at this time. I revamped 2 sets of old valances to make some girly ones. love that they look new, yet were free.

we don't buy each other gifts for the holiday, as we like to keep things simple. but hubster did surprise me with a new little shelf he made from some scraps & 2 iron brackets we had from when we put up the kitchen shelves and this handsome rooster. I like things up high. nice to look at, but not in my personal space where it's small. and I'm a girl that loves a rooster! lol

just for a change of pace, we do have lots of visitors. the dark photo is a huge black bear.

I love to see the wildlife that frequents everyone's property and that really is one big black bear, did you ever see it again? I'm not one for ogling over interior finishes but I like some of your personal touches like the hearts on the ceiling and the stenciled staircase, if not hand painted.

I love everything about your place abby! That sleigh is adorable! Hmmm....I wish I wasn't so quick to throw out stuff when it was "worn out". I had a cute sleigh when my kids were babies and then when they got paper routes, they used it in the winter to hold their newspapers. Wish I still had that for the happy memories it held. *sigh*

I totally get what you are saying about putting things high up so it isn't in your space. We are the same and have shelves all along the wall near the ceiling in our living room.

Bob built me a book shelf recently. I love to read but have little space for books. I have a "little free library" outside that I put books in for the neighbours, etc. but some books I want to keep. Some are old and some were written by friends. I ran out of space so Bob very kindly built this super inexpensive shelf in the little hall between our living room and bedroom. I love it!!

hattie, I LOVE the shelves! a great place is above doorways, and I adore your library. great job, Bob!! I love to read, too, and that can be a problem with lots of books in a small space. my kids keep saying, 'mom, get a kindle'. I like real books. hold in your hand and turn the page books. haha...old folk. along the ceiling is so fabulous for shelving. be it for books, or kitchen wares, food, etc., great space! thank you for your kind words. I can look at this sled and immediately remember going fast down a hill with my kids. (it's oddly narrow. did I really fit???) hahaha!!!!!

Abby, great thread on your place. I missed looking at it earlier, but have enjoyed seeing it. Like the restored yard tractor also. Looks like a fun type of project.

Pileated Woodpecker>> I believe and is the largest woodpecker in US.
I once had a woodpecker that was a pest on my home. It was like clock work each morning on the tin of the roof. He thought he owned the place. Lol

yep it suppose to be the largest in usa except the possibly extinct ivory-billed woodpecker...

Jebediah, I've only seen two huge bears. have seen cubs in spring that had me walking the opposite direction. (we all know mom is close) this is more the norm. herds in spring/summer, and then they want anything to eat in winter.

hi everyone. not much going on as we're just waiting out winter. we put on a tiny porch this year, and I bring this up because it's been the first winter that my door hasn't frozen shut! years past snow or rain would hit directly on the door and I'd have to beat on it in the morning. boy, sometimes it's the little things that make life nice....I can open my door this winter! also here is the Deere that hub has now finished. tossed some greenery up on that newer shelf so my big chicken didn't look so bare. lol today I have been busy digging old grout out on the kitchen counter top. took years, but it sure got nasty looking. using epoxy grout to freshen things up. hub is putting some bead board up on the downstairs bathroom ceiling. we both just want spring to go outside again! take care!

it's amazing that just digging out old yukky grout and putting in new can make things look so fresh and CLEAN again. a tedious little job that I thought was going to be a breeze, but dig, dig, dig some more. lol so worth it in the end, tho! it's March now, so the spring countdown is truly on. before starting on the new out building, we thought it might be nice to lay some stepping stones for a sidewalk of sorts. what? life without gushing thru mud? yessss! can't wait.
