Winter looms
Ran outta time in regard to getting a woodshed or utility shed up.
Costco has these tent/garage things.
10 x 20
$230

Hate the looks

They look ugly, like tent sale at a sporting goods store parking lot ugly
I generly hate them.
Over all, I hate them.
However
Quite roomy
Relatively easy for two people to put together.
Rather impressed with the engineering of the framework (I've been on that end).
What I wasn't impressed with was the weeny tent stakes.
They're for kiddie tents at best.
Also, I've been advised that they tend to leak at the seams.
I was going to anyway, but I made sure to tarp it.
My only angst now is keeping the pointy side up during a winter blow.
I first used the loops to tie it down.
Only thing, they got in the way of the tarp.
No matter how hard I configured it, there was always flappy sections that would surely become sails with the right high wind direction.
So, against the little voice that screams, I removed the ropes from the loops and now just have it tied down via girding ropes.
So, nothing is resisting, really.
As I type, thinking I may take the tarp off tomorrow, fold it to just cover the edges, and use the loops in conjunction with the tarp ropes.
Gonna sleep on this, so hope to see y'all's input in the morn.
The other thing is, cabi is gonna go to her artsy fartsy get together tomorrow and I vowed, after my last episode, to never touch a power tool that has teeth while she was gone.
So, retarping/configuring should take up the time she's away.
Or, I could just crank up ol' betsy an zip off some logs....

LOL Gary, you always make me chuckle... I'm sure there is a store about "Tools with Teeth". This fall the DeWalt Circ Saw shortened one of my fingers by an 1/8th which is pretty well healed now.
From the other posts as this is a thread that may be viewed others in search of info.
Clearing the snow off my 32x11 Shelter I used a Soft Broom on the inside and knocked the snow off gently by pushing up. No Hard or Sharp objects "ever".
Keeping the Cover safe:
Mine came with Pipe Wrap (the foam type used to insulate water pipes) that go over the peaks and is Zippy Tied on. Prevents damage from rubbing against the metalwork. Simple and VERY Effective.
Closing up the sides @ ground level: Ohh never let the sides lift in a breeze, lest you want to see it fly ! After securing mine to the ground with the supplies Mega-Nails (over 12" long) which are attached to the bottom frame, the "canvas" left enough flap (about 10") on each side that I placed rocks all along the sides (no spaces).
Keeping things Off the Ground. Pallets are YOUR FRIEND ! Things Freeze to the ground so if you have things you want to be able to move about, use Pallets... Ohhh what a lifesaver that was / is.
Drainage ! Make sure that water can go away from the shelter rather than inside it... A simple swale around it to redirect rain and melt water away is all important.

Gary, would adding a grommet at the point where the tarp is in contact with the pointy end work? If the grommet is large enough you could tie the rope to the loop then fish the rope through the grommet as the first step to installing the tarp.

We tented for 25 years on our land before we built. Owned many tents. Tented on our honeymoon in Hawaii,five islands,five weeks.
The first thing we did when we got a tent was to buy and use seam sealer on all the seams,inside and out. Never had a problem with leaky tents. Always carried a bottle with us for touch-ups.
Don't think this is going to be much help now since the structure is up.

I have a friend who used this structure as a hay shelter for her horses. Its lasted years and hasnt leaked.
She just used bigger stakes.
Hopefully u will come to love it.

Yep, tenting it is grimtooth, but you gotta do what you can. It sucks to run out of the warm weather though and still be in the tent situation.

All good advice, Steve.
Our kit does not have any extra length at the bottom.
Matter of fact, it's an inch or two shy of touching ground.
as far as stuff sticking to the ground, like snow/ice welded, a few years back, while closing up the cabin, I decided to lean a half sheet of OSB against the door to keep snow from building up.
Couple months later, we trudged in from the road to find it cemented in so deep in ice I had to saw it off and pickax the remains just to get inside.

Y'know, I thought about that...as I was teetering on the ladder 'I need a grommet maker'.
Well, I'm going with plan E3...gonna fold it to size (just a few inches past the edge) and tyin' it all down.
S'posed to rain and snow today.
Should be fun.
Four hours lay-tah.....
Weather was predicted, so chose to do a buncha little tasks instead of tackling the tent.
While calking the cabin, and periodically looking back at the tent, it dawned on me; I could just put a little slit in the tarp where the ropes would go, and presto; the desired resistance of normal tent rope application would be achieved.
So I relieved a few bungies and did just that.
I can rest on it now.
Learning curves can be a bit unforgiving out here, so doing your best from the get go increases the odds, and gives you at least a chance at success.

Looks good Gary, I's stuff put something along the bottoms if possible to prevent air etc for getting under the side. Scrappy logs or ? Maybe overkill or over thinking but I see potential Could've, Would've and Should haves that would make me NUTZ later ! LMAO
I have a propensity to apply Murphy's Laws counter planning and often think of the old saying "an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure" contingencies. To that end, the "Rule of 3" is always applied whenever possible.

MY huntclub has a similar tent . When we discovered its shortcomings we had another 16 in. of poly tarp sown to the bottom , much better now .
